Wiz.bin Inquiry

I transfered the wiz.bin from my old server to the new one. All my recording were transfered to their original path on the new hard drive and upon reboot everythingwas recognized (LiveTV recordings). I have been triying get the LM remote sagetv channel changing plugin to go but it is not changing channels (this is another story). I tried to open the wiz.bin with notepad to see if there was an entry that could have been conflicting with LM remote but everytime I try to open it, it just hangs adn I get a Not responding error on the notepad window! I tried to open it up with wordpad and it opens but the file is unreadable (gibberish all over!). the same happens if I try to read any .bak files! Is this the case of a corrupted wiz.bin? Can I delete this file and it will auto-regenerates when I start SageTV? I am usign the latest SageTv software (no RC). Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The wiz.bin is not a text file... it is a proprietary binary database. There is no tool that can read the database like you are trying to do.

If wiz.bin gets corrupted you will see file called wiz.bin.corrupted. The bak and corrupted files can be safely deleted. Do not delete wiz.bin otherwise you will lose all your recording information.

Maybe you're thinking of Sage.properties, which is a human-readable text file containing configuration settings. I do not recommend copying Sage.properties from one machine to another, but you can eyeball them both to see if there are any significant differences, and copy individual properties that you want to keep. (Of course you should shut down Sage and stop the service before trying to edit the properties file.)
