Is Graphstudio the software to set the filter priorities? I seem to remember another bit of software that made setting the filters easier.

You can use the filter browser in GraphStudio after launching it escalated. Ffdshow includes a merit slider in it's settings application (also requires esclation).

I hope I'm not taking advantage of your guys knowledge and time but you are a great help.

I looked up escalated and just wanted to verify that that means launching the app as a admin?

I brought up FFdshow video decoder config window and see a h.264/avc codec that is the one I want to disable correct?

And lastly how do I lower ffdshows merit? Found this one how low do I want to set it?

I usually configure ffdshow as unlikely. So if nothing else will handle it, ffdshow can do it.

the graph looks right (althoug if Nero is your new default decoder you may want to try the MPC-HC video decoder*).

can you select cc1 on the client? or do you mean that you can't even highlight/toggle the setting?

* I have a modified version of this filter that I can share in the next few days

I run a server off my pc and stream to a hd200 in the living room. when opening Sage on the PC the cc options are there but not selectable. On the HD200 the option are there and selectable with cc1 and cc2 being the choices but no subtitles are showing up. I think the hd200 uses its own codecs though so I'm thinking it probably can't use your filters.

I picked up the Media player classic homecinema player but do not see the filter in graph when I try and add it to my filter favorites. Do i need to find the codec separate from the player and register it like the subtitle render filter?

yes.

btw, if the subtitles don't work on the hd200 something's probably wrong with them.

ok here is the graph it looks good. found the mpc codec and loaded it thanks for all the earlier help finally can load the AX on my own. I downloaded the x84 version there is also an x64 version did I get the right one?

mpchc_x86_v1.2.908.0_MPCVideoDec.zip
mpchc_x64_v1.2.908.0_MPCVideoDec.zip

in sage I selected
Video renderer tried both evr and vmr9
mpeg4 playback "direct show"
h264 decoder "mpc video decoder" as the default

But still no subtitles. Shouldn't they show up in Graph when I preview the video there?

One other question. I looked for another subtitle file to maybe create them and use them external. downloaded an English version srt for defiance but when I opened it to look at he text it only has the English lines. None of the Russian or German in the movie is in the srt file. How or where do you find subtiles files for the non english parts of the movie? English subtitle files seem to do this for all movies that I have looked at. If I could just find those type of files I can get them working on the hd200 since cc does not work but subtiles do.

update:

Well I was not able to get any subtitles working on my server but I located the non-english only versions of the srt subtitles online. I mux'ed them with mkvmerge. I now have them working on my hd200 when the subtitle options are enabled and the new eng file selected. I guess as long as I can find those versions online it fixes my issues. Thanks for all the help. I learned a lot about the codecs and filters.

Since I upgraded to Windows 7 x64 from Vista x64 I haven't been able to get the SutitleRender filter working. The filter shows in a graph but inside SageTV no CC's are available. Any ideas?

It shows up in GraphStudio but not Sage? Did you import the STVi or are you using SageMC?

Yes, it shows up in GraphStudio. It also shows up in the DShowGraphFilters line in the log but for some reason I am unable to select CC's to display as I was before. I am using the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder for playback of both MPEG2 and H.264 video. Would this affect anything? I also have the latest Haali Media Splitter installed.

I'm using SageMC

If the filter loads in GraphStudio and Sage, I'm not sure what the problem is. Have to think about it some.

No biggie. I personally don't run my client that much any more. It's mostly just vestigial and used mainly for maintenance of the server. I mainly keep it up "just in case" and to keep myself educated on the latest things.

As a side note I noticed that the Microsoft decoder has a couple extra pins. A subtitle input and a Line 21 output. Could this decoder be part of the problem? When I get home and have some extra time I could try using the Arcsoft decoder to see if I have any luck with it.

I think that's probably it. The ms decoder must implement the line21 decoder interface.

That would suck if true. I've had some pretty strange issues with Arcsoft fading into blockiness and then going back to normal every few seconds during playback. Not sure what's up with that. Haven't actually tried it in Win7 yet.

Ok, I've tried both the Cyberlink MPEG2 decoder and Arcsoft Video Deocder for H.264. Neither one allow the option for closed captions to be enabled. I also noticed that with always_use_dshow_player=false that vobsub style subtitles work but SRT ones don't. So possibly it has something to do with the beta splitter for Windows 7.

Sage 7

Does this work with Sage7? Also should I see the captions if i playback in graphedit? I manually added the filter to the graph. Haali shows subtitles as being selected but I am not seeing any.
