I have no idea if the updated firmware is the solution or if making this network change is the solution but has anyone who has had this problem tried changing to manual before?

This sounds like a DHCP issue to me. It could be cause by something like your DHCP server (possibly a dsl router or cable modem) rebooting itself and the HD200 not correctly renewing it's lease.
Setting it to manual will fix that, but I wouldn't use the IP that it gave you when set to automatic. The DHCP server may try to assign that to a different device. Try using the other half of the last octet of the IP. If the IP that it acquired automatically was 192.168.1.4. Then your subnet range is probably 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254 (or 192.168.1.0/24 for you networking ppl). In this example try setting it to 192.168.1.204 instead of 192.168.1.4. It will be much more unlikely to have an IP conflict with the DHCP server.
If your IP was 192.168.1.204, try setting it to 192.168.1.4. Avoid using .1 or .254 for the last octet as that is usually used by routers and such.
