Another HD-200 issue.

When I am recording shows and fire up the HD-200 to watch TV or a recorded show it many times will not connect. The recordings do continue to completion. It seems to occur more when recording two shows and unfortunately does not happen every time. I guess it could be a SageTV server problem(software) as well. I was wondering if others here have experienced the same problem? Thanks

Yes, I have this problem regularly. Sometimes cold-booting the HD200 will solve it, and leaving it unplugged more than 10 seconds seems to help. But, when all else fails, you need to cold-boot the server and the HD200s all at the same time. If you're recording, you'll have a spot missing, or wait until the recordings are done.

I'm sure Jeff can speak to it better, but I wonder if your "new" beta firmware on the HD200 is having problems with the "old" Sage 6.4 you're running (unless you've forgotten to update your sig).

As information the upgrade to the current firmware 20090616 0 had not improved things. I am still getting issues where the network connection is lost and requires a hard (unplug power) restart to get it back on network. edit; i have opened a bug report but could no figure out how to attach the logging reports.

I've been having the same issue for a while now. It's been 3 or 4 betas ago since I reported the problem (although it started before that). I think they've been working on it with all these updates and am hopeful that it gets resolved eventually. The better the product - the better the sales, and the better the sales - the more money with which to make the product better.

I noticed something this weekend. When my HD200 wouldn't connect, the gateway under network settings was zeroed out. I also saw that there was an updated firmware available so I updated my firmware on Friday. At the same time, I decided to try using "manual" instead of "automatic" under the networking options. Basically I used automatic and then wrote down all the numbers, switched to manual, and then reinputted the numbers. It may be too early to get too optimistic but I haven't had a problem since. I have no idea if the updated firmware is the solution or if making this network change is the solution but has anyone who has had this problem tried changing to manual before?

I assume the firmware upgrade you refer to is 20090616 0, which is what I am running and still have these disconnect problems.

One thing to try:

HD200 in standalone mode; go into Settings->Advanced Setup->General and set your Library Import Management to be 'Manual' Setup->instead of 'Automatic'.

I have noticed a similar problem, but it's not related to recording on the server.

If I do the following, I need to unplug the HD200 to get it on the network (it's set to manual IP settings)

1) Watch SageTV on any HD200 (I have 3)
2) (might not be interesting/needed) - shut off HD200
2) stop the SageTV service while HD200 is on or off - not sure if it matters, need more testing
2) restart the SaveTV service (HD200s are off at this point)
3) turn on HD200

At this point, HD200 can't find server and isn't on the network as it can't do any updates either. So, A quick unplug/plug in sequence solves the problem in 2 seconds.

Yes and this also prevents sending the debug information in the logs and messages to Sage bug reports.

2 seconds to get up off the couch and unplug. 2 minutes for the HD200 to reboot and connect (IF it does).........

This was a suggestion from tech support, and it helped, but didn't eliminate the problems I'm having. But, it's more than a shame that this (and numerous other possible things to try?) aren't systematically documented somewhere.

Sorry to hear that. After changing mine to manual IP settings and using 20090616, I hadn't had a problem in over a week. I decided to update to the latest beta firmware as well as release candidate yesterday (sorry don't know the release numbers but it's the latest as of last night). I haven't had a problem today with the latest versions either so I was hoping the problems were fixed for everyone.

Still happening here on the 20090616 firmware.

Is it possible that this is only happening if the SageTV server service is restarted while the HD200 is "off"? It went a long time this time for me before doing it again, but I had restarted the Sage service at about the same time. Hmmm...

There is a newer firmaware version available version 20090626 0 if you want to give it a go. Its suggested that you again use the newest beta software.
