Problem when watching video in Media Player with sagetv in the background

I noticed a problem where if I am playing a video (AVI) in a media player (such as Media Player Classic), and I pause the video, open up SageTV, and try to tune something, SageTV returns an error: "sage.PlaybackException: ERROR -4,0x80040217; there was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback." If I close the media player, and retune the channel, it works. I'm assuming this is because the video renderer is set to DX9, VMR9. Is there a way around this?

Thanks,
- Eli

I'm not certain this is related, but I know that I can't watch a video in my browser while a show is paused in Sage, due to the two attempting to use the same audio/video paths. At least, that's what I believe to be the cause. In that scenario, I get video, but no audio.

That's not flash video you are playing in the browser, right, more like some embedded windows media player? But I know I can play two video files at the same time (open two instances of MPC and open a video file in each window). Oh, well. This is just for a moment, since I'll be putting together a cheap small machine to act as a DVR to the TV. I think this is the most simple route.
