Xcard as Decoder - Audio Problems

Hell Folks,

I tried using my Xcard as the video decoder and the video output to my TV looks great. However, the audio coming out of the Xcard is too high and a bit distorted.

I am using the digital audio output on the back on the Xcard, feeding the digital input to a Kenwood receiver which drives my speakers. When using the Xcard to play DVD's the audio is fine. Using the Xcard as a decoder for SageTV, the audio level is too high and sounds a bit distorted/scratchy.

Setting the audio level to about -50 on the Kenwood is a good level for DVD's, but with SageTV I have to set it to about -75 to get the same volume. Even at that level the audio sounds like it might be a bit clipped.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Steve

I don't know if this applies to SageTV, but this tip from SHS's site helped with my volume level when recording with the early WinTVCap(3rd party record only software). Since both WinTV and WinTVCap read from a small buffer(appears to be part of the PVR driver's behavior) on the hd, I imagine SageTV uses the same procedures.
Anyway here's a quote from SHSPVR.com "Tip & Tweak" , "PVR250/350" section.
Quote:
MPEG Audio Record Volume Level Tip
Open Registry Editor,
Go to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Hauppauge\hcwTVDlg\AudioControls
look for Scart1_Volume it the record volume level key.
Use the range 100-127 Decimal, Try small steps.
Thank Barnabas
I hope this helps. My key was long ago editted for proper volume on TV out playback, before I ever bought SageTV.

PS: Obviously this will only apply to the new recordings made after the registry edit.
