Updated HVR-2250 Driver

I installed the HVR-2250 capture card in 2008 with the 7.3.0.26198 driver dated 7/16/2008. Everything has been working fine. So I decided to break one of my most valuable rules and update the driver. The rule is "If it ain't broke don't fix it". I stopped the SageTV service and installed the newest non-beta driver version 27086 on my SageTV server. The installation went fine so I restarted the SageTV service and went to my SageTV client to test recording and watching a program. I closed the client and reopened it. I went to TV and pressed Guide. There was no guide data. Major disappointment. So, knowing that I was partaking in high risk activity by updating the driver on something that was working just fine I did make an Acronis image of the C: partition before installing the driver. I restored the image and the guide has returned to normal.

My question is: Why did the guide disappear when I updated the HVR-2250 driver?

There are lots of possibilities, depending on the exact sequence of events you performed. Since I don't know exactly what was done... After reinstalling the driver, was the tuner still working in SageTV? If not, did you reconfigure the tuner including scanning for channels? After scanning for channels, did you remap the stations so the found QAM or OTA digital channels were mapped to the correct Zap2it-named stations? Did you give it time to download EPG data? There's also a FAQ about missing guide data that might be relevant.

I was feeling adventurous so I tried installing the non-beta 27086 driver again. I didn't lose the guide this time but I did experience the stuttering issue mentioned in the sticky thread in this forum. I tried the 27090 beta driver and everything seems to be working fine. The guide is displayed normally and the picture quality of new recordings is improved when compared to recordings made with the old July 2008 driver.
