R5000 users got a quick one

What are you guys doing to reconect the hd5000 app to sageserver after a reboot automatically?

What I am saying is you know the hd5000 app has to be started before the sage service or it won't get a ping from sage. How are you guys doing this? Is there a way to make sage send a ping to the hd5000 app everyday or so just to make sure it hasn't lost it?

thanks

Not sure I understand the question. I place a shortcut to the r5000 app in my startup folder so that it is loaded automatically when windows starts. There are also ways to set it up as a service - more involved.

Yes mine loads at startup the problem lies in that the service usually gets started before the program

I have not noticed it being a problem if Sage starts before the R5000 app.

Really because if the service starts before the app in my case r5000 just states wating for ping from sagetv server

Do you guys have something set up that is making sage ping the tuner every so often?

I must be missing something.

I have two R5000's. When I tried to put two shortcuts in the start up folder, the second R5000 app startup would sometimes fail, so I have one script that starts the R5000 waits 30 seconds and starts the second R5000. This seems to work fine.

I've never paid attention to if the sage service starts before, after or in the middle or the R5000's startups, but I'm never missing recordins. So, I did not think it mattered.

Works for me in the Startup group, even if the SageTV Service starts first.

instead of having the sage service start automatically you could use a bat file that would start the R5000 application then net start the sage service.

In my case it does not seem to matter if the R5000 app starts before or after Sage. If the R5000 app shows waiting for ping from Sage, it will update to show a ping from Sage when Sage calls for a recording from the r5000. You can also initiate a ping from Sage by going to setup video sources and exiting without changing the setup. So it looks to me like Sage will connect and ping the R5000 app whenever it need to get information from the app.

I have started and stopped the R5000 app without stopping the Sage service and have never missed a recording from the R5000 after doing so.

See this is weird for me if it isn't getting a ping when I call to tune or record a channel I get nothing every.

Same thing if I go into setup sources

Maybe I will try BABG batch idea.

So if it tells you waiting for ping, when you check your recording schedule does it show the scheduled recordings for the R5000? In my setup if Sage does not know about the R5000 being up and running, the the recording schedule will not show any recordings that have been scheduled for the R5000.

if that doesn't work let me know, I have a service project that could be adapted to running a bat file pretty easily.

@rob

do you mind sharing your script? Starting r5000 #2 is the only thing keeping me from a smooth unattended reboot.

I have 2 R5000 and I had to setup a script. This is what you do. Use sagetv service app, to install sagetv service. Then go into services and tell the sagetv service to only start up manually. Then make a bat file, tell it to start up your R5000 programs, I start one issue a wait command, then start the other R5000 program, issue another wait command, then use "start sagetv" command to start the service. I'm 60 miles away from my setup so I can't send it directly but if you do some bat file seraching its really easy, just look for the wait command for xp, and check the service name to use with the start command.

Creating a service is really easy, if you have Visual Studio 2008. I think even the free express versions can do it. Just create a new c# project, and select a Windows Service project. It creates a skeleton that you can compile and install using instsrv.exe(comes with the .NET framework) You can modify the project to use a create process to launch your batch file, and you have a service to launch a batch file in under 5 minutes.

It won't do error checking and whatnot, but it is a service, which means you can make the service you create dependent on the sagetv service. So from now on, it won't start until Sage does. not sure if there is a way to do that through the services window, I always add dependent services through the registry.
