Basic Newbie Aussie setup.
OK. About to "launch" into SageTV....but what's the best setup for Australia.
Is this what you do/can be done here? 1/ Get SageTV Server 2/ put it onto a computer (I have a Mac Pro) 3/ Get a BeyonwizDP-P2 (with ICETV EPG) 4/ Plug Beyonwiz into High Def broadcast 5/ Network Beyonwiz to Mac Pro 6/ Put a SageTV HD200 extender at every TV zone 7/ Link these via Cat5/6 onto the same network 8/ Download latest firmware for HD200's in order for them to stream onto our PAL TV's 9/ Stream live TV via all this and control via IR remote standing in front of each TV Is each of these steps logical and possible? Where do you buy the SageTV hardware in Australia? Thanks!! |

SageTV Server is a PVR in its own right. Why do you still need Beyonwiz?
If you do go with Beyonwiz and it can share recordings over the network, then you do not need Sage Server at all. Both of them do the same job - record TV to your hard disk.

Running sageTV without a computer
Thanks for reply.
Good point! I'm considering the beyonwiz, simply because it's not a computer. I don't want the hastles of my family not being able to use the setup easily. My dream TV server/zone stream setup would work for video like sonos server works for audio. That is stream Live TV (and any video for that matter) without the need for a computer server. I don't thing Sage can do that quite yet ( not even with their badge Hauhpunt PVR) The other reason is IceTV. This is the only half decent EPG available here and it comes preloaded on the beyonwiz right out of the box. |

SageTV can do exactly what you are asking for plus some extras.
Yes, it is a computer server and it involves some work up front to set it up properly. Once that is done, everyone in the family can use it just like a regular PVR. There are plenty of help in this forum to get you there, if you are familiar with computer yourself. For EPG, I use OZTivo. It is free and quite usable for my purpose. If you go with the Sage HD Theater (in a headless server), it will save you a lot of troubles setting up the server (mostly video playback related). Yes, I agree SageTV is not 100% non-techie friendly. For regular consumers, TIVO or Beyonwiz would make more sense.
