Pop-ups

Currently a pop-up requests confirmation as to whether SageTV should change the channel to record a Favorite or manual recording 2 minutes before the start of that program. A few questions.

1) If I don't answer the question (I'm on the phone or otherwise not present), what happens?

2) If I'm watching a previously recorded program, why do I care? Shouldn't it just switch? Could/should there be a user option for the pop-up? It seems unneccessary and is annoying.

I understand if I'm watching Live TV that a decision must be made.

Tom

1 - It'll change the channel
2 - It shouldn't do this while you're watching something previously recorded. It should only do this if you're what you're watching wasn't over yet when you started watching it. Let me know if this conflicts with what you saw, and if it does, please provide the details.

There is another annoying popup that happens if you are watching a show that is a favorite and manual record that is still being recorded and you change the channel a pop up ask you if you want to stop recording and change the channel or cancel. I have a dual turner rig and wish it would just change to the other tuner if it is not recording a favorite or manual record without the pop up.

I actually liked the pop-up that got me last night. I have 2 tuners and both were actually recording shows. I was in the EPG attempting to delete some earlier programs and view others when I accidentally selected a live program.

SageTV prompted me to ask if I wanted to stop recording one of the shows and tune to the live show I (unintentionally) selected. After I said "No", it asked the same question again for the other program I was recording at the time. Exactly the flexibility I needed (i.e. I could choose which recording to halt). Of course, I said "No" to the 2nd one as well and all continued as I had intended...

mandrake,

I just fixed what you're referring to. That'll be in the first beta for 1.3.

Ed,

That's still in there, I like that too.

Narflex -

Maybe instead of two seperate popup windows in an instance like that, it could give three menu choices. Ie;

No tuners are currently available to service this request, would you like to;
- Stop recording 'Show 1'
- Stop recording 'Show 2'
- Cancel request

In my mind, that'd be slightly more user friendly than multiple popups and also presents all the information needed on one screen. If multiple popups are left, and I don't know what each tuner is currently recording there might be an instance where I decide not to change the channel on the first prompt, then get the second prompt and realize I would rather have cancelled the first recording which means I'd need to cancel the request, and then re-initiate it and cancel the first recording.

It's probably not something that'll happen too frequently, but I think that'd be the ideal way to handle it.

I agree with you that it would be the ideal way. But due to certain architectural reasons, it's much easier for me to keep it the way it is.

Yah, I thought it might complicate things a bit. Ohh well, like I said I doubt it'll come up very often anyhow.

I also like the popup if I'm watching live TV. Makes great sense.

Narflex,
I was watching a show recorded the previous evening. Specifically
- I had Intelligent Recording Off
- I was 45 minutes into a 2 hour recording from the previous evening
- Nothing else was running on the HTPC other than LCDC and Girder both of which are not connected in any way to SageTV at this time
- I have no idea what channel Sage TV was on before the request to switch
- It was attempting to switch to a Favorite vs a manual or single shot recording.
- I'm using a Happanauge 350 and your released software (vs beta).

I will have this same setup tonight and will let you know if it happens again. If there are other data points you might need, let me know.

Tom
