I have one installed, and it seems to be OK so far. I got a bunch of alerts about failed recordings two weeks ago, but I think I have may been mucking around with the box at the time, since I also got alerts on my HD-PVR. Since I've been leaving it alone, it's been running along without any issues.

I may install a second one, but there's no hurry, since there's almost nothing on the broadcast networks worth watching right now. I detest sports and reality TV, so I won't need the extra tuners until fall.

Plenty of QAM...

I have Comcast in the Baltimore area (they actually have the best customer service in the area, believe it or not!). I get about 30 or so QAM channels. The only one I don't get that I (my wife) watches on a set top box in the bedroom is Discovery ID.

I'm done playing around w/Sage so I can turn in my HD-DVR. I just have to stop tweaking it cause I tend to screw it up (if it ain't broke...). Having 4 tuners is nice. Haven't had any issues w/the tuners since I did a full install a couple months ago. Setting up, I did have to rescan the channels a couple times cause it did lock up. If I go the whole house with extenders, I will upgrade the mobo to a 790fx, or fall back to a NF4U that has 1 PCIe 16x and 2 PCIe 4x since I can go headless on WHS. so I can have at least 3 cards. Can't get the wife to use the setup I have in the basement. I think she is intimidated and doesn't realize how easy it is to navigate, especially w/a Harmony One.

Has anyone noticed the volume level of the recordings on the duet?

I know from time to time, some cards record really soft. I’ve got an old analog ATI card that is hardly usable because of the stark volume contrast to my other tuners. Not too mention that now it’s hardly usable since analog feeds are getting terminated left and right.

If you have a couple of different cards in your server do you notice any changes between one recording and the other, or have to crank the TV to max?

I’m in the market for a new tuner namely for QAM and thinking about this or to get another HDHR (which has been great).

Does anyone have any advice/opinions about Duet vs the HDHR for QAM?

if price is a factor

Haven't noticed any issues with sound levels. I have my HD200 going to a Sony receiver via HDMI. I don't use the server for playback.

For the price you can't beat it! For less $ than 1 HDHR, I got 2 cards/4 tuners. I prefer the internal solution for tuners so I have no experience with the HDHR.

I wonder why Sage doesn’t officially support this tuner? It seems as though it works fine according to this thread.

Does anyone know why Sage hasn’t officially supported this tuner, and or, how to see if they will add the Duet to their supported tuners list?

Official word from Avermedia...

I sent a message yesterday to Avermedia about support in WHS. Their reply is...

"Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting AVerMedia Technologies, Inc. USA Office.

There is currently no support for WHS. We have not tested AVerTVHD Duet with WHS so we do not know if they are compatible."

From others on here, I'm getting that it works fine. I'm setting up a server w/the 120 day trial. Waiting on a fresh HDD. I'll report back on if QAM works on my particular setup.

problems tuning qam channel

I installed avertvhd duet recently in a new machine I built with Windows 7rc and OTA tuning works great. When I hook up a cable feed and try to scan for qam channels it scans and finds NO channels. Is there something I am missing in setting this up?

Thanks,

Randy

Not that I know what I'm talking about...I'm strictly trial and error and learn from others. Since WHS is built on Server 2003, try looking for those drivers. That is one of the questions I'm trying to answer is does QAM work on WHS with this card.

In most cases the XP drivers will work on WHS. I've used XP drivers for various video cards. NICs, sound and tuner capture cards on WHS and they worked fine. But I can't attest to your particular card.

So far...no luck

No luck on XP or Vista 32 bit drivers. Scanning shows no channels at all. Going to try Windows 7 for kicks. The worst out of it, I have to stick w/Vista and some sort of RAID/JBOD. It gave me a good excuse for a new TD drive!

No luck

No luck with any drivers. I have both tuners connected to Comcast. Can't pick up any channels.

Can you pick up channels with the app that comes with the tuner? You must shut down the SageTV service before testing it.

I'll give it a shot. I think it may be that the cards don't play well w/WHS. In Vista, everything worked awesome. If I end up staying w/Vista, I'll stick w/One Care for back ups. I won't give up just yet. If the Aver app works w/WHS, Sage has to.

Thanks for the tips Gerry. Still no luck. I stopped the Sage service and installed the Aver app and it could not see the cards. It could be me. Others have gotten this card to work with OTA so it may be me.

Ideas?

I've tried a few different drivers w/no luck. All XP, Vista and W7. Also tried drivers from the beta FTP site. I reformatted everything (don't ask! I corrupted my Vista OS drive!) and reinstalled Vista. Was having no signal issues. I did find the driver CD, .72 drivers, and installed. Had better luck with that.

The one thing I didn't try was the .72 drivers in WHS or reset the CMOS. I thing the wife would kill me if I screwed with it again eventhough I don't have Vista fully up and running.

Still no one else has tried to tune QAM with this card and WHS?

Anyone have luck with 6.6.2?

After my failed attempt with this card and WHS, went back to Vista Premium 32 bit and SageTV 6.6.2. This isn't really a bug since this card is not officially supported, but has anyone been able to get this to work in the latest version of Sage? I ended up reformatting and started ftom scratch. VMC sometimes didn't even see the card. The Aver app didn't see it at all. I went back to 6.5.17 and all is well again. On the few times VMC saw the card, it couldn't get a signal. Just another reason to stay away from VMC!

Any further reports on this card?

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger.

Price just dropped again on NE.

Just need to figure out the remote situation with it...

Should add that all I'll be trying to do is SageTV+Placeshifter+Vista Premium+OTA only.

I use two of these cards in my Vista 32 server and XP server machines (one in each server). I get all of my OTA HiDef locals and the video/audio is just as good as my Hauppauge HVR-2250.
