HD Theater will not see a file server

I have a few of machines on my LAN, two of them store media. These machines are PCs running Linux using Samba to share the files. When I go to add a new import directory the HD Theater can see one of these machines and I can browse into it (after entering the user name and password) and play media from it. However, the second machine does not appear in the browser so I cannot reach it from HD Theater. Is there a way to enter the name of the machine directly (or even the IP address) to bypass this problem?

I have already tried updating the firmware to the latest release version and when that didn't change anything I updated to the latest beta version, again without any change.

A bit more information, it appears that if you have a Windows Domain on your LAN the HD Theater's LAN browser will ONLY show you the Windows Domain (and the machines that are members of it) and will not show you any Windows Workgroups that are also on the LAN. The file server that I cannot get to is in a workgroup (as it has not been made a domain member).
