black screen in SageTV

I’ve been using SageTV for the past seven days and all was working well on an analog cable connection until I installed the USB-UIRT and ran the setup again. The UIRT is working fine and it changes channels within SageTV, but the screen is black and no sound either. winTV is showing the digital feed (but it must be on channel 3). In SageTV, even when channel 3 is selected and I manually select another channel on the digital cable box, it is still black.

I chose “composite” during setup and my pvr-250 is connected to a Motorola DCT2000 digital cable box. Any ideas on what I need to do?

You need to pick Antenna or RF instead of Composite, there should be an option to use ch3 and tune an external device.

I chose the “TV – Tuner Antenna” option. I can now view the feed on ch3, but I can’t change the channel via USB-UIRT - this option did not appear with the “TV – Tuner Antenna” option. Are these the only two choices, i.e., 1. “Composite” with full UIRT capability (but black screen) or 2. “TV – Tuner Antenna”, but have to change the channels manually?

ok – some progress – I chose the fixed channel option (ch 3) and now I can change the channel on the digital cable box within SageTV via the UIRT (and no more black screen). That’s the good news, problem is that when I schedule a show to record, SageTV begins recording at the scheduled time, but the last selected channel. How can I get SageTV to change the channel to the scheduled show?

SageTV should change the channel automatically just as it starts to record.

As soon as I got everything working, SageTV crashed on me - it won't even start now - I get the initial splash screen for several seconds as it is trying to load, then it just stops - last words seen are: "initializing Infrared Transmission device." Should I reinstall?

I went ahead and reinstalled and all seems to be fine and working well now. My trial ends in one day - now that Sage is running stable, I'm inclined to buy it and forgo the snapstream trial. If anyone wants to offer any opinions, please jump in. If I stick with Sage, at least I know I'll get good support.
