Turn off timeshifting in SageTV

This probably sounds silly but i would like to turn off the timeshifting functionality in SageTV and just use it to watch and record shows with no pause or rewind capability. I only record a few things and use the machine as my home webserver so i'd like to keep hd usage down to a minimum.

Thanks

Forgive me for asking, but if you never watch Live TV on it, why do you need to turn of timeshifting?

To minimize HD usage, turn of Intelligent Recordings and make sure to sleep Sage whene you're not using it, that will stop it from recording things you don't want.

Ah...

Yeah, I just use my TV when I want to watch Live TV (pretty much only do that to check the weather channel).

I think the assumption they made is that Sage tv will manage that buffer used for timeshifting and the end user will not really have to worry about hard drive usage since it is only a buffer than can be overwritten by a recorded show if needed.

It's like for Tivo users, they don't know what's on the hard drive except what the tivo interface shows them....so they don't actually see all the garbage files in between.

I understand your desire to not use the hard drive for that buffer especially when you know exactly what shows you want to record and when.

Dan talks about it here as well as other users:

Timeshifting

View television at a time other than when it is broadcast. SageTV is always recording—creating a “buffer” of the video you just viewed. Video signal is digitally stored on a hard drive while simultaneously reading and writing data. Therefore, SageTV is able to play video back at a later time even while recording something else.
