Did I Brick My Box?
A couple of days ago I installed the current beta code on my HD200 because the release notes indicated that the browsing of DVD titles had been optimized for better performance. After the install I did not notice any performance increase and actually discovered a problem when trying to view the contents of a playlist in the DVD section.
Tonight I decided to downgrade the firmware to the release version. I started the install process and left the system running whil I did some other things. The last status screen that I remember seeing said something like "Erasing 2/2". I came back about 40 minutes later, the screen was black and the "no signal" message from the TV was displayed on the screen. The red power and the green data lights on the HD200 were on. I did a hard power cycle of the HD200. When it came back on, the Sage TV logo came up on the screen, but it never went any further. No loading fonts message or anything else. My connection from the HD200 to the TV is through an HDMI cable. Any ideas on how to recover from this? I hope I don't have a $200 brick sitting next to my TV. |

Yes, you can use it as a door stop or paper weight now!
J/k. Try to disconnect power, then press the delete button when connecting power cord, then you can release delete after you see flashes (if I remember correctly). This should default to the original firmware (i think). Read the faq and/or manual: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...t=hd200+manual

Yes QueOnda is right, it is worthless. I'll give you 50 bucks for it, just cuz I'm nice. . Check the manual and it a try. Luckily I haven't run into this problem yet, but it is good to know Sage built in failed firmware update fixes.

Neither of the suggestions in the manual that describe how to recover from a firmware load problem worked for me. I have opened up a trouble ticket with Sage.

It turns out that all I had to do was hit the video out button on the remote a couple of times after the HD200 powered up. For some reason when the firmware downgrade finished, any time that the box was power cycled, it would not use the HDMI connection after the Sage TV logo went away. That made it look like the box just locked up.
In any case - all is well now. |
