Good work, Sage team!

There are few important features missing, IMHO:
1. Ability to load arbitrary subtitle file (not just by the file name, and not just from the same folder as the movie).
2. Subtitle position adjustment
3. Subtitle font and background adjustment
4. Timing adjustment

In addition, in my case some Russian .srt files are being displayed as garbage. It seems they are UTF-8 - encoded. I've converted them to ANSI (using Uni2me), and this helped. This issue has been reported.
+1
All these and: getting subs on/off by default without having to turn them on for every file I watch.
Fixing the encoding to work with all files.
Semi transparent bkgrnd to the subs.

This is a great step in the right direction. But after using JREkiwi plugin which had these...

How to do that.

Well ,

I'm using 1 LCD TV HD with high resolution 1080, and 1 STPHD200 . that connected to LCD that has lower resolution 720.

when i'm adjusting the subtitle font size on my main SagTv computer, i get it to big in my STPHD200,

how can i make it for one size on my local SageTv computer, and other size on my STPHD200.

Thanks

Does the new CC work with the Hauppauge HD-PVR?

So far its working great for me using the Hauppauge PVR-500 and the SiliconDust HDHR tuners. Haven't gotten it to work with the HD-PVR though.

I'm hearing from a couple of people that they are not getting CC with the HDHR tuners. I am so I"m wondering what others are experiencing?

Anyone else out there getting CC on HDHR tuners with the latest SageTV beta? Note: This is on the HD200, Placeshifter and Mac only of course.

Since you asked I thought I would try it. C1 gives me captions on Friday's Dollhouse and Terminator:SCC.

HD200, (not on a HD100) and PC clients. Latest HDHR software/firmware. (20090412.beta 1)

Brent, I believe the confusion could be with people running SageMC and which version. I thought I was okay cause I was running the latest release, but it didn't work for me (I had no Closed Captioning option) until I updated to the latest SageMC pre-release, version 6.3.7a_8

Brent,

You will NEVER get CC from the stream coming from the HDPVR unless they update the firmware to pass the information embedded in the H.264 file, and even then there would need to be a new way to see it. The HDPVR just doesn't have the capability. I just turn CC on in the Directv Receiver and it gets recorded by the HDPVR as part of the image. Only thing is I can NEVER turn it off!

EIA-708 Support?

Will there be an update to support EIA-708 Closed captions in digital broadcasts? instead of only the EIA-608 Line 21 old school analog?

I don't recall if this was ever mentioned in any of SageTV's update information but HTML style tags aren't supported in SRT style subtitles. The tags end up showing rather than changing the text. For example:

Code:
<i>Hello.</i>
would be displayed on screen exactly that way instead of formatted as:

Hello.

I've submitted a bug report so hopefully they will allow text styling via HTML tags in the future.

I got a reply back from support saying that styling isn't yet supported but that it should be stripping the tags before displaying the subtitles on the screen. Once I mentioned my video has embedded MKV subtitles they said that tag stripping is currently working only with separate subtitles but should be fixed to work with embedded subtitles in the next beta.

Hopefully they'll implement subtitle styling in the near future.

Internal MKV Subtitle support

I wonder if there is any sort of ETA on this, i keep checking back to see if each new beta will do it. It seems like they are getting more and more support for subtitles but still no MKV + internal files (which are 90% of the ones I watch).

Well, it was working on a earlier beta, then this last beta before it stopped working, now the beta that came out today has it sort of working, but the text is all garbled.

Ugh...

sage team,

the least that you can do is to give an answer to all the people who bought sage and the ones thinking about buying, if we should keep our hopes high for DVB subtitles, or we should move to alternative softwares

Remember that this is a user forum. Every once in a great while there are responses from Sage themselves, but you really shouldn't depend on an answer in these forums. In addition they almost never release any information about future features.

Are there any known issues with MKV subtitle support? I am consdering to start using MKV instead of MP4, mainly because Handbrake support for subtitles in MKV is much better than MP4. I have created few test files and it seems that HD100 has some issues playing these (hangs, playback exception, etc.).
