The only problem I've had with my two Netgear GS-108 switches is that both of their power supplies failed at almost exactly the same time -- nothing on my network would connect until I replaced the power supplies. I had other similar power supplies & used them as replacements, but I still need to replace one of those. I now need more than an 8 port switch, so I could just get one of the 16 port switches mentioned in this topic.

I'm actually still on 100 in my home, but I admittedly don't have a lot of network traffic. I use an old WRT54G, and some random linksys 5 port 100 switch... I'm outgrowing them, and replacing the switch with a used DGS-1016D.
