Recommend a good Gigabit switch for use with extenders

I have an HD-100 and wand to get a 200 as well. I also have an HDHR. I would like to keep my server at gig, but I am getting some stuttering when it is at gig. It worked well with a higher end switch as a test, but I am trying to get by with a small 8 port if possible.

I use the Netgear GS608 8 port switch http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833122141 with my 3 HDHRs and HD100.

I like the HP-1800. 8-ports gigabit and web-manager. Supports VLANs.
Upgradeable firmware.

I use the DGS-1008D > 8-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch
D-Link make very good products and are fairly inexpensive, It's got some kind of "Green" technology for low power consumption and I have not had to do a thing to it since I hooked it up, It runs along side my D-Link DIR -655 gb router.

I highly recommend the HP 1800 series Switch as a low cost 1GB switch. It is a no frills switch. It does have a web interface (allows upgrade of firmware), supports Link aggregation, supports vlans and the most important issue for me is "Lifetime warranty : for as long as you own the product, with next-business-day advance replacement (available in most countries)".

I am a 100mb switch with no problem. I have a gb switch on the network but the switch hooked up to my HD100 is a 100mb. You shouldn't need a gb switch. I am been using a DLink.

I agree. I had 2 hdhr and a HD100 and 2 HD200 (of course not all HD extenders going at same time but I had HD100 and HD200 going at same time) and I only had a 100MB network at the time. What else you got going on? You don't have your antivirus or something else messing with your connection?

100mb is not sufficient for futur proofing in my opion.

Example:

I am streaming a blu ray in one room my wife goes to watch another blu ray in the bedroom. That is between 60mbs and 80mbs depending on the bitrate for both movies. If we happen to have hdhomerun recordings running at the same time or I am doing network transfers between computers.

As cheap as gb switches are these days I wouldn't recomend a 100mb to anyone.

I'm happy with the choice I made - the Netgear GS108T.

I was leaning toward a GS108 Netgear. Do you use the Smart Switch features of the T model?

FWIW, I've had great luck with Netgear ProSafe stuff.

Funny the gs108 is the same switch that I am now on my third one with. Yes they have a lifetime warranty but funny they want to charge me $20 everytime for shipping if I don't want to send my broke one back first and wait 10 days for a replacement. It is a good switch when it works. They tried to blame my cat 5e runs, my network cards everything. Funny when I hook the dlink up and everything wokrs 100% of course this is just my experience ymmv.

I have a few Netgear GS608's and they've never given me any problems. I went through a number of dlink switches in the past and the fans always died causing noise and then overheating.

just an fyi, from my experience netgear is the only consumer network manufacturer whose power supplies support 110 & 220v. SMC, Linksys and DLink, at least for the units I had in my hands don't.

I've set up a couple of port based VLANs. Visitors are welcome to use my WLAN AP to get internet access, but they're not able to access my cabled media network. Same applies to nosy neighbors - the extra WLAN antennae I set up to provide good in house coverage also cover them ...

Sad to hear it. One thing I've made sure of is to allow good airflow around the unit (I mounted in on a wall) since it does not have any fan. I've had no issues at all after I switched it on for almost a year ago. LAN cables are cat5e, self built.

I have been using a Dlink 655, which incorporates an 802.11/n router as well. I have a Netgear GS608 connected to it for more ports. Bulletproof.

I have been using Dlink for awhile now and have bee very satisfied. Not sure if this question is really about a router or a switch. I use the DIR-655 in the closet and a series of DGS-2205 switches around the house to split the main line to different devices.

DIR-655:

DGS-2205
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833127083

Putting a 10/100/1000 switch on a 10/100 router would be pointless. I have been happy with my setup. Everything is Dlink.

I'm thinking about picking up one of these switches Dlink 2208:

Are you guys still pretty happy with it? Any others that you recommend I should look at?

TIA
