"homebrew" serial ir receiver support?

I currently have a couple "homebrew" serial ir receivers that I would really like to use.

It does not appear that these are supported by default, when installed on com1 I can select com1 from the setup menu under "ir hardware", but it gives me an error and it will not work.

I have one of these nicely integrated into a case, and I would definately prefer not to have to change it (or buy new ones). Also this is the same schematic used for the packard bell remote receivers.

I used these in mythtv, so I know the hardware works fine. Is there a plugin or any way to get these to work? I suppose there is a windows equivelant of lirc, but that would be messy and I would prefer native support.

I doubt it works natively, but it should work just fine via girder (~lirc). There's a SageTV Girder file in the link in my Sig if you can get the IR working with girder.

FYI this does work using winlirc and girder, very well in fact.

I bought a irman receiver so I could do this natively, but was very disappointed.

I was also very disappointed with using girder alone (with out winlirc).

In both of these cases I could learn the same button several times and get several different codes recorded. Winlirc (which is just a port if lirc, which I have used), takes several samples and takes an effort to learn the type of remote itself.

For anyone that is having problems with their remote working consistantly (having to press a button several times before the command takes), I would highly recommend using the winlirc/girder combo, even if you have an irman or whatever for native sage support (or native girder for that matter).

Of course I don't think this would matter for remotes that do not need to be learned (if you have software that comes with the remote, like the hauppage), but for ones that do there is a noticable difference.
