Yet another EVR thread...
I was able to get the EVR option back in my client but I still have issues with certain files, under certain circumstances.
EVR+PDVD8+DShow+ripped DVD vobs(in VIDEO_TS folder format)=bad EVR+PDVD8+DShow+DVD converted to mkv with handbrake=good EVR+PDVD8+DShow+DVD converted to MP4 with nero=good EVR+PDVD8+DShow+AVI=bad EVR+PDVD8+SagePlayer+AVI=good (sometimes (mpeg4=good msmpeg=bad) EVR+PDVD8+DShow+MKV (converted from bad avi with mkvmerge)=good EVR+PDVD8+DShow+MP4=good EVR+PDVD8+DShow+VC-1=bad All files play under VMR9. All files play in external players, even with EVR enabled. All "bad" files look like the attached screenshots... Any ideas? |

Also:
EVR+PDVD8+DShow+recorded TV=bad (mpeg-ps) VMR9+PDVD8+DShow+recorded TV=good I doubt the problem is the files, pdvd8 or codecs since they play outside of Sage. I doubt it's the video drivers since others are using the same drivers (ATI Cat 9.1) with EVR. That really only leaves something wrong with my vista install or my Sage client install, as far as I can tell. Perhaps I'll uninstall the client and do a clean install instead of upgrade type installs over older versions... EDIT: Nope, the clean install was exactly the same... It keeps getting weirder...
Now, all of a sudden, starting today, if I use VMR9 I get the "ActiveMovie Window" when playing some avi files (not all), but none of the mp4's made with nero nor any of the mkv's made with handbrake have the same problem. Recorded TV is fine too... Using overlay on the "problem avi" files plays within Sage. EVR still is a no go. Vista64 ATI 4870 (Cat 9.2) Java 6_12 Sage Client 6.5.9 8G RAM I could restore to an earlier date via WHS but I'm still resisting re-installing Vista clean. I'm definately not going back to XP. Any ideas? Last edited by S_M_E; 02-25-2009 at 11:19 PM. |

It's not a HTPC, it's my workstation, and no.

If it was just a HTPC I wouldn't be using vista64 nor 8G RAM and reinstalling the OS wouldn't be as complicated but, regardless, the Sage client should work without problems. It used to. Perhaps the last MS updates broke something on my setup but that was the only thing that changed before the new "ActiveMovie Window" problem cropped up. I could work around by converting the problematic AVI files to mkv but I shouldn't have to.
I'm starting to think that a clean OS install might be the only way to fix the current issues but it's just a royal PITA to reinstall all of my apps and configure everything I use (especially all of my outlook accounts) so I'm trying to fix it without formatting still. |

OK, issue resolved:
1) I did a clean OS install of Vista64 (plus all updates) 2) Installed ATI Cat 9.2 drivers 3) Installed Sage Client 4) Installed Media portal (just to use the latest SAF) 5) Installed Haali media splitter 6) Installed SAF 3.44 (thanks to Kryspy for the SAF info in another thread) 7) Restarted the Sage Client 8) Selected EVR and Cyberlink PDVD 9 for DVD and Video/Audio sections of Detailed Setup Now everything I have plays using EVR although I do see a flicker (every .5 second) in the OSD when watching SDTV and AVI files that I can live with, so far. EDIT: The flicker was solved by turning off animation. Last edited by S_M_E; 03-10-2009 at 11:05 PM. |

Thanks for all the suggestions.
The only problem I have is I have a lot of activated software on the computer that I am trying to use as the client. I think what I am going to try is to install another HD and make the computer dual bootable and install everything fresh. I will get back and let you all know what happens. Ed |

First, what's EVR? Second, at what point did you install PowerDVD, and why, since the SAF page seems to indicate that you shouldn't need to? Also, does the configuration if PowerDVD still require you to make a bunch of registry changes so the filters get ordered properly?
