RAID 0 or 2 seperate drives?
I am trying to decide which is more efficient. Currently my recording sources are 1 PCI Hauppauge 500 MCE and 1 HDHR. My recording drive setup is using the motherboard bios Raid 0 using 2 250 GB drives for 1 total drive of 500 GB.
I have pretty much caught up on most of my recordings and my drives are nearly empty so now would be an optimal time to re-evaluate my recording setup. Is it more efficient to have the 2 drives in a RAID 0 configuration, or to have each drive separate and just choose them both as recording drives and let SAGE handle the allocation of recordings? If I went with separate drives, how does SAGE allocate recordings: most remaining storage, or can I choose a drive per tuner? Any and All thoughts are appreciated! Regards, Brian |

I'd go with separate drives, RAID-0 will give you a boost in sequential transfer rate, but nothing (if not a negative impact) no "random" access. Sage recording ability is more latency bound than anything. If you have two drives you can "conceptually" half your latency issues if it records to separate drives.
As for sage, it picks the drive with the most free space. You can set a "preferred" drive per tuner though. However that only works if there's enough free space on the preferred drive. |
