Shows in multiple files, missing sections
I originally posted this problem to the 2.0 Beta forum (http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...?threadid=3854) but no one had an answer. So I downgraded to version 1.4, and the problem persists.
Most of the programs that I record are unwatchable, because they're missing big chunks. Looking at the files in the Video directory, I found that shows are being broken up into several files (TheApprentice-12345-0.mpg, TheApprentice-12345-1.mpg, etc.) Some of the clips are as short as one second long, and there are gaps between the clips - that is, there might be the first 20 minutes of the program in clip 0, then a gap, then one second of video in clip 1, then a gap. I've tried everything I can think of to resolve the problem: reinstalled the latest drivers from shspvr, tried a different disk controller. I'm sure that the cable signal is nice and strong. The only clue that I have is this: when I was running the 2.0 beta, the message "SEEKER HAS DETECTED A HALT IN THE ENCODER...TRYING TO RESET IT" appeared in the log file at the same time the files were split. I'm using a PVR-250 (r15) and a PVR-350. The problem occurs on shows recorded with both cards. Thanks, Kevin |

I did a quick browse of the other thread let me know I don't have your events correct:
Installed 250Gb + controller - problems Moved 250 to MB controller - problems went away Added 250 (15) to 350 - problems If that's the case, what happens if you remove one of the tuners? |

Actually it was:
Installed 250Gb + controller - problems Moved 250 to MB controller - I thought problems went away, but they really hadn't. Added 250 (15) to 350 - problems continued. Should I remove a card to test? Which one? |

If you had the problems before and after you added the 250 (it now occurs to me just how bad my nomenclature was), the WinTV 250 that is, I would take out the 350 to be sure it isn't a HW problem with the 350. If that's not it, it sounds like either a driver or OS problem.

There are a lot of things to try to narrow it down, but like I said in the other thread: check with Frey to see if they can give an answer as to what would cause the error message you are getting. Perhaps that would give a clue towards what to focus on.
Did SageTV ever work for you in the past, or is this all part of your initial attempt to get it to work? If it did work, what parts were added/removed after that? Other things to look at: Does TV viewing/watching work with the Hauppauge programs? Have you installed the latest drivers? Try installing only one encoder at a time, does either one work by itself? How powerful is your PC's power supply -- is it overloaded? How are your IRQs assigned -- do the encoders share an IRQ with each other or other thigns? If so, can you move the cards to different slots or change the IRQ assignment some other way? Is the new 250GB drive the only one in the system? If not, can you record to your other drive w/o problems? I guess such a list could go on and on and ... - Andy |

Waffle,
I'm seeing exactly the same problem. I didn't before. I reinstalled drivers after I moved my cards around on the mobo and now I get this problem. Deadbolt |

I'm sorry to hear that, Deadbolt, but it's heartening to know that I am not alone. I haven't had any luck resolving it yet. I've reinstalled various drivers a dozen times and moved the cards around in several configurations, with no luck yet.

Some troubleshooting steps to consider:
1. Reduce your hardware to the minimum required to run SageTV and avoid using the PCI slot next to the AGP slot for your capture card (these slots usually share an interrupt). 2. Use MSCONFIG to turn off any startup items and non-microsoft services not required by SageTV. 3. Test this configuration. If it works, add the services/startup items/hardware one at a time until you find the culprit. If it doesn't work, try the software that ships with your Hauppauge card - can you capture successfully with Ulead Movie Factory? If not, try the other capture card. If none of the above work, you've probably got a driver/hardware/Windows problem and it's time to consider whether it's faster to troubleshoot or simply flatten the system and start over. Good luck. |

waffle,
I just noticed that my USB-uirt is changing the channel away and then back quick during the recording! this is why i get the split files and miss some of the show...do you us a usb-uirt? Has anyone ever heard of random channel changes during a show initiated by the usb-uirt? I also added a fan to cool the cards and my setup is much more stable now....I think the combination of the USB-UIRT going bonkers and the heat making it take forever to do anything (even manual GUI manipulation would take forever) resulted in my split files plus gaps. EDIT: I'm not sure if this is the case now. While I have seen marked improvment ... I am still seeing this error. I'll post my results after further testing. I took jmiddleton's advice and spent most of the day reinstalling Windows, then the latest drivers, then SageTV. Moved the PCI cards around for good measure and did a nice fresh install, with absolutely nothing that is not essential installed. And guess what? *The problem still occurs!* I am so mad I could squash a pea. I don't know what to try next, but I am sick of wasting my time with this.

I've noticed that the files almost always break on a five-minute mark on the clock. That is, it might happen at 12:00 or 2:35, or 4:40, or 8:15, but rarely happens at a time like 1:12. Deadbolt, have you seen this behavior?

I did all the reinstalling and am now cooled to kingdom come...I still get this problem with my 350 and 250! I'll try to see about the 5 min marks...but i often get a large and small piece...sometimes 3 pieces for one show! I'm pissed because it makes it a pain in the butt to watch on the MediaMVP...and the second piece cannot be watched until the recording is done. It is brought up as a badly encoded file.
One thing I noticed is that I don't get this behavior after rebooting. I takes I'm about ready to reinstall 1.4 just to ensure this is a 2.0.13 thing! EDIT: I now see you already tried downgrading to 1.4! Also, I have also confirmed my files are lastmodified stamped with even 5 min thing...but I have one where this is not the case. I am also getting the error in the log: SEEKER HAS DETECTED A HALT IN THE ENCODER...TRYING TO RESET IT Deadbolt Last edited by Deadbolt; 03-15-2004 at 04:35 PM. |

I just noticed that when I tuned to a show that was recording in SageTV with SageClient (also beta 2.13) and that show was being recorded by the SageClient machine's instance of SageRecorder as a network encoder...I got the multiple file problem.

Be sure to report that as a bug. I don't use SageClient, so can't try that... but... are you seeing the "SEEKER HAS DETECTED A HALT IN THE ENCODER...TRYING TO RESET IT" message in the log file?

I moved the hard drive, video card, and two PVRs to a different PC, did a fresh install, and no longer have the broken files problem. It just didn't like something about that other hardware.

I thought you sent your cards back to Hauppauge? I'm trying to switch machines tonight...the weird thing is I had months of problem free use with 1.4 ... no lock ups, no multiple files.

No, I never said I was sending the cards back. At one point I exchanged a PVR-250r16 for a r15, though.

I have a r15 oem type deal (kind from ebay from MVP PCs).
I was getting this and having problems. I messed around with some drivers and it went away for now. Hopefully it stays gone. Looking at my last 2 days log, it only happened 1 time. It happened at a 5 minute mark like you, weird. Tue 3/23 15:50:01.271 newRecord=A[725387,608119,"Room Raiders",10986@0323.15:30,30] Tue 3/23 15:50:01.271 Keeping record just the way it is.
