Streamlined process for BD to server
I recently purchased a HD200 and have >100BD and >200DVD that I want to put on the server. I have read many threads...
The shortest process I found it 4 steps. 1. Rip 2. Encode 3. Audio convert 4. Mux together Is there not a one stop shop? Nobody has created a single piece of software? Can the Extender recognize a ripped BD out of the Video_TS/Audio_TS folders? Are people just processing the file because of storage constraints. I feel luck but storage is not an issue for me. We currently have a 12TB WHS on a gigabit ethernet. I would be happy to just keep the BD as they are without all the hassle. Also I noticed that numerous people purchase a place-shifter instead of a client licence, for use with HTPC's Any downsides to this? Thanks. |

Sage recognizes DVDs natively. I use DVD Shrink (w/ "No Compression") to rebuild DVDs without extras. For BD, I outlined my procedures here:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...4&postcount=37 Recompression is, IMO a waste of time, it may save some space, but the loss in quality is not worth the long time to re-encode. |

I use one step for BDs that have any sort of AC3 derivitave audio, including True HD. I just use TXMuxer to mux the file from disc to hard drive, downconverting True HD to AC3 as I mux. This actually takes less time that ripping to hard drive does.
For BDs with DTS tracks I still mux from disc to hard drive and downconvert the DTS HD tracks to DTS as I mux. Then I use eac3to to convert the DTS track to AC3 and use TSMuxer to recombine the ac3 audio and the video. AC3 is the only audio that works across the board for my clients and HD-200s. If DTS ended up being supported from the stereo outputs on the HD-200 then DTS BDs could be done in one step also.

I assume that means you also use anydvd-hd too though, right?

Yes, It's loaded while the process is going on. I just don't use the rip to HDD feature.

Yeah I thought so. I think what the OP is talking about is a single piece of SW that does everything. Like if anydvd also did the optional encoding, audio conversions and muxing. It's also a shame that anydvd did away with the lifetime license...like others have...

I would be content (for my purposes at least) if TSMuxer had the ability to convert the DTS tracks to AC3 while muxing. But.... you have to do what you have to do. And I've got it as simple as I can get it for my needs anyway.

No doubt. Since we don't have an all-in-one solution it is what it is...

There is BD Rebuilder if you're OK with ~1day encoding times and loss of quality.

I use TSmuxer and re-order the audio tracks if needed. I have a variety of extenders (HD100 & 200). If the movie has DTS and AC3 I set the AC3 track as the first audio track (default) so the file will play on all extenders. If I happen to be watching on the HD-200 I manually select the second audio track to get the DTS goodness. If there is no AC3 english track I do as described above with eac3to to create one and remux.

Just looked at BD-RB. It looks like a decent one-stop-shop program but I'm not sure the audio output would be HD100/200 compatible. You'd still need to transcode the audio to your liking. I personally wouldn't use it as it doesn't have powerful enough encode options. I use MeGUI to transcode the video and have a custom profile I use that seems to work very well for me.

I've decided to hold out(at least for now) on my Bluray ripping until Sage adds the ability to decode TrueHD and DTS-MA in their HD200.
Then I can simply select the 1080p video and the TrueHD or DTS-MA audio track and I'll be in heaven Anyone have any knowledge about when this will happen? |
