HD100 and Hulu?

I'm happy for all the next-gen Extender folk, but wonder if any work is being done on the HD100? Yeah, I know we got an update a little while ago, though I'm not clear what was updated.. maybe the copyright notice? I'm wondering, without needing any timeline.. if development for things like the inclusion of Hulu are even being attempted for the HD100?? I don't think it would hurt to aknowledge that new features and improvements are still being worked on for this 'older' unit? If not.. how about a 'trade-up' deal from Sage????

I'm not sure what features you're missing on the HD100 versus the HD200 at this point. Hulu isn't available on any of SageTV yet (except for PlayOn in Standalone-mode for HD200) so for now we're in the wait-and-see mode for now.

I'll bet Hulu will be available on the HD200, HD100 and all SageTV PCs and Clients. Don't know for sure yet, but that's my bet.

We also have to remember that the chipsets are different between the two so some things just won't be possible on the HD100. I just try to remember that I am treating my HD100's as I do my MediaMVP's.....I bought them to do X and as long as the do X then I am not disappointed.

With that being said, Sage has also been very good about finding ways around limitations. The ability to Transcode HD MPEG's to an MVP was a godsend and really allowed me to extend the life of all of my MVP's so even if the chipset doesn't allow for something, its always possible Sage will find away.

I'm not so interested in what is missing, but what is being worked on... is the firmware on the HD100 being worked on continually to improve upon what is already there? Are new drivers and such still being worked on and optimized for it or is it 'stable' and all work is now being done on the new model with no effort being put into the older units except for bug fixes.. I think you get what I'm saying... Because the HD100 is a slower GUI, I'd think maybe a faster way to render the UI would be a development project that would be unique to that model.. if such unique development is even going on... maybe persistent caching of images in flash would help, how about the use of a USB Thumbdrive to keep a cache of objects to shrink the amount of data that has to be streamed before it is rendered.. I don't know.. just the acknowledgement that the product you have isn't gathering dust while all current development, whatever that may be, is being done exclusively on the newer platform.

Hmm. Well, fwiw my guess is this.
  • SageTV will add any new features to the HD100 that they add to the HD200 that are compatible with the hardware that exists
  • SageTV will likely do any HD100-specific bug fixes and possibly any "enhancements" requested by users that they can justify the time spent doing so.
If there are specific, doable fixes or enhancements desired I would definitely submit those to the SageTV team now - you never know....

I don't feel like they are abandoning the HD100 by any means, it's just a more mature product with slightly lesser hardware so as time goes on it will likely fade in to the background a bit.

I doubt the SageTV team will post about "upcoming features" for any device or software until its in a public beta. That's how they've been operating for quite a while and the only exceptions have been the CES mentions (Hulu, HD-PVR support etc) to get the attention of the media.

I was told the fix for FLAC crashing HD100 should be included sometimes in the future since it was already included in HD200 betas.
