Sage won't come up

I try to load Sage TV now, and I get nothing. Attached is the error log... please help.

The timestamp on that logfile is from a month ago....

I was attempting all of the regular fixes for stuff like this.
First, I upgraded to v1.2.8...no joy.

Then, I renamed my wiz.bin to wiz.bak2, no luck. Then I tried to rename it back, still nothing.

I noticed that the sagetv_x.txt files were huge, I mean like 12-15 MB.

So, I deleted them. I then restarted Sage and it came up!

It seems to be working, but the log files are getting huge very quickly. Here is the smallest of them in case you can see anything in it. (I remember changing a setting somewhere for more detailed logging, maybe that's causing these huge files).

You're still running 1.2.5 Beta...look at the second line of the log file. Remove 1.2.8, then delete the Frey Technologies folder (this'll kill all you're settings FYI and remove any beta remnants), then install 1.2.8. 1.2.8 doesn't create log files.

I thought we didn't have to uninstall anymore and could install the new one right over the old.

I will do that, but how do I get shows from my library and previously recorded material back into the list of recordings. It seems to throw these directly into the errant folder upon startup...

Also, if I delete the Frey Technologies folder, can I save the sage.properties and wiz.bin files in a temp directory or something in order to save my settings, or should I start from scratch?

Setting up channels and favorites all the time gets to be a bitch...

Make a copy of your sage.properties, wiz.bin and wiz.bak first. Then uninstall/delete everything. Then before you run SageTV, copy the three files back to the SageTV folder. That will save all your settings and watched history.

You'll also need to move any video files out of the errant folder back into the their appropriate location.

Matt, you shouldn't have to do this in general, but sometimes when I send out individual patches to people (like you), they end up confusing the installers so you need to do a full remove like you did.

I uninstalled and reinstalled 1.2.8. All seems well. All of my previously recorded shows now appear within the recordings section. Thanks for your help.

I wonder what caused this issue... I guess I am just glad it's working again. I am growing to rely on this thing...

Now that I am watching... I notice that recorded material (even previously recorded stuff from way back) now stutters, and drops frames. My CPU usage is hovers close to 100%. Could there still be something wrong?

The CPU usage hovers around 90% when in sleep mode... that can't be right...

I never noticed this previously.

I moved wiz.bin and wiz.bak to a temp directory and let Sage create new ones. This corrected the cpu usage issue but now my recorded material goes right into the errant folder and does not appear in the sage recordings area. Is there any way to get this back??

The reason it's going into the errant folder is because there is no longer an association to that file. The only way to get them back is to use the old wiz.bin and bak files or move them to your Library Import directory and you'll have those shows available through the Library...

Never really knew what that import folder was for... works like a charm.

I think things are back to normal now. I have recorded a show, played it back, with 20-30% cpu usage the whole time. Sleep mode requires little or no cpu usage now.

Whew! I wonder what corrupted my wiz.bin file, but maybe it's a good idea to start over once in a while (like reformatting and reinstalling windows)...

The Library also accepts any file type for playback, MPEG-1, Divx, MP3, etc. Some files like Divx will require the appropriate codec to be installed for playback though.

FYI - I've used the same Wiz file for the past 9 months. I never delete mine. Wouldn't want to lose all that valuable profiling information I've built up.
