Placeshifter video quality and sound sync
Hi,
I have only been using Placeshifter for a few days. I really like the theory, but the practice could do with a little tuning. For the moment I am only interested in programs I have recorded into MPEG2 that I usually play back in Sage, but I am sure I will start looking at archived programs in H264 at some point. I use it across the internet. I am using a very fast connection at the client end and the server should be able to transmit at 400kbps. I usually get placeshifter getting up to about 250kbps - 320kbps.
My first gripe is that the video quality isn't great and I have two nearly idle CPUs on my server that could be doing more. Nero Recode can do about 60fps when encoding to a file suitable for my iPod or phone, they look much better and are at a low enough bit rate that they could be streamed.
My second gripe is that the videos I have watched all have the sound out of sync with the video. Not much more to say about that!
A third and very minor comment (I probably don't have something set up right) is about aspect ratio - my sage server gets this right, but watching remotely on placeshifter this seems that "source" seems to always be stuck in 4:3.
Any help with any of this will be most appreciated!
