Need help with HDPVR and SageTV
Running SageTV in a fresh installation of Windows Vista.
I've installed the HDPVR ver E1 and can get it working using the ArcSoft software. However, when I go to setup the HDPVR in the SageTV software, I select Component for the input, I wait for it to load a preview and it comes back with this error: There was a Playback Error in playback. Details:Anyone got an idea what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do to fix this? This is driving me nuts. I've spent 6 hours last night fighting with this. Also, I'm running the lastest driver 1.053 for the HDPVR. |

See post #2 in this thread:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...ile#post324366 Someone is going to have to collect and collate all the info on the HD PVR and make a sticky thread or something. There are so many key things about getting it tweaked properly, I would hate to have to go through the process again. On a related note, I wish Sage had something in the System Info area showing what decoders and renderers are currently being used. It would help people identify a lot of problems. |

Running 6.4.
I've seen posts of people running 6.5 but I haven't seemed to have found a link to download that. Also, I'll try adding the 3 lines that HelenWeathers posted in the above link. I spent several hours trying to search the forums here but never did find that particular post. Would have been nice to of tried it last night. |

FYI: I don't believe the new beta is required for smooth h.264 playback if you have everything set up right. Just an opinion. 6.4 is working fine for me.

I've had a version B2 and C1 running well on both 6.4.8 and 6.5.3+ with no issues (on WHS, too.) I had the same trouble as you initially, as I didn't understand all the filter stuff and it took me a while to get it right.
The best thing I did was use the version of graphedit on This guys site to find out what filters and codecs my server and clients (Vista 32 and 64bit) where running. In every case that I was getting a circle o'death it turned out to be some codec or another was inserting itself above the Hauppauge or Cyberlink ones I like to use for H264. Just my 1.76 cents. Don't give up, it works. You just have to get those codecs straightened out!

OK, I installed SageTV 6.5.6 Beta and the HDPVR worked like a charm. Absolutely no problems with setup to get video to display.
I do have another problem, although I'm not sure if it's a problem or not. I was able to get the Channel lists for my local cable provider (Comcast Digital - Jacksonville). However, I'm not getting all of the program guide data. I would say more than half the channels show "No Data". Particularly the higher channels show "No Data". There are a few channels in the lower numbers showing "No Data" as well. Does it take time for it to get this data or do I need to do something special to get it going? It can take some time. I had a similar issue when re-adding my HD-PVR (Rma'd) to my system. It seems that because it had an existing lineup from my previous installation it decided it didn't need to update the EPG even though that previous installation hadn't had an update in a couple weeks.
Even going in and turning on and off a channel didn't force a reload of EPG data for some reason. According to SageTV (via the system info in the help screen) it wasn't going to do an EPG update for about another 14 hours. Maybe it was because I probably didn't finalize the setup after turning on a channel and then going back in and turning it off?? Luckily I have the SageTV webserver installed so I just browsed to it from my other machine and on the bottom of the homepage there's an option to force SageTV to do an EPG update.
