Nova-S2 card won`t scan for channels - Help!

I`ve been trying on and off to get Sage tv working for months on my WHS. I`m having another crack, hence the post.

I have a Nova-S2 card in my WHS, and one Sage Client installed on a laptop. When I try to scan for channels on the client I get nothing.

I`ve successfully proved that the TV card is working correctly, by installing Powercinema and WinTV on the WHS - both apps will scan for channels and show a TV picture on the WHS console.

Would really apprecaite some pointers here - hope you can help!

You scan for channels on the server not on the client. At least that is what I have always done. After all the client has no TV tuners.

Scanning on the client starts the scan on the server, it shouldn't make a difference. You can scan from placeshifter or extender too. The chances are that the Predefined scan for your Sat lineup isn't correct, or something else is loaded that's grabbing the tuner. If you raise a support request with Sage they can check the logs and find out what the problem is. You'll need to tell them if it's Freesat/Sky/whatever you're trying to scan though.

Thanks for the reply. I`ve uninstalled powercinema and wintv just in case, and following a reboot, I`m getting the same behaviour. At least thats ruled out.

You mention the sat lineup may not be correct, is that something to do with the .FRQ files?? I`ve tried taking ones from the UK forums for Sky/Freesat, but it doesn`t help. When I try to do a scan, these FRQ files appear to be removed - so perhaps I am not installing these FRQ files correctly. Is there a guide on how to use predefined FRQ files?

Is it just me or is Sage a total nightmare to configure for UK DVB-S?????

If you wish to alter the .frq files you need to stop sagetv first! (or the sagetv service if you run it that way). Then make your changes, then start sage.

You were right - It worked!!!

What i don`t get is that when I installed the trial version of save, I DID manage to scan for channels on the client. So I naturally assumed that it would work the same on the full version. Sage needs to fix this.

Thanks for your help.

Ooops seems I took to long to write my reply and you now have it working.

Ignore this post.

I`ve picked up FRQ file for just the freesat channels in the forums, but I still seem to have loads more (sky) channels than I should. i`ve stopped and restared the sage tv service. Is there anything else I need to do to make this new FRQ file active?

What I would do is delete whats inside your original .frq and then paste the contents of the other .frq into your .frq.
Then inside Sage settings goto your Sat card settings and disable all your channels, restart Sage/Service. Once youve restarted go back to the Sat card settings and enable all the channels, wait a few moments and then look at the guide. This will force an epg update.

You only want to scan the satellite once just to check that everything is working OK & to create a .frq file. After that you should never scan again but always edit the .frq file.

Never Scan for channels unless you want to overwrite your .frq file

If you can't wait, you can even cancel the scan after 10 seconds and the frq file will be created, then you can just edit it and add the frequencies you want (making sure sage is not running).
