Comskip with HD-PVR H.264 ts files - how fast should it run?

I'm using Comskip 0.80.007 with Comskip Monitor.
I finally got it to process HD-PVR files after I discovered that the the file extensions listed in comskip.properties process.file.extensions are case sensitive. Once I changed .TS to .ts, it started processing those files also.

The logs show that it is taking about 3 hours Comskip run time for each 1 hour HD show. This is on an E8400 (Core2 Duo 3.0GHz) system.

I'm using the single-tasking Comskip Monitor for now. I have not yet tried the version that runs multiple Comskip jobs concurrently.

Is a processing time of 3X the show run time typical for others? Is there any tweaking I can do to increase processing speed?

I am using the 80.008 build and it is much faster than that. My Q6600 running at stock speed single threaded takes about 45~50 minutes per hour on H264 .ts files and is lightning fast on Mpeg2 HD files.

You might want to try the latest build.

80.008 build is definitely faster.

command line to comslip to use with HDPVR recordings

What command line are you guys using for comskip on HD-PVR recordings? In my testing with 0.80.007, I'm not getting any useful results:

Input:
=======
comskip.exe --playnice --ini=comskip.ini --detectmethod=255 some_hdpvr_recording.mpg .

Output:
=======
First PAT [ 100]
[ 100] Added PMT[1001] pid = 1011 type = 27
[ 100] Added PMT[1001] pid = 1100 type = 129
0:Auto selected video pid = 1011
0: Auto selected audio pid = 1100
MPEG2 sound at 48 khz
AC3 sound at 48 khz
Video PID not found, available video PID's 1011,

Parsed 0 video frames and 44638 audio frames of 25.00 fps

Maximum Volume found is 8648

Detect method 255 is everything including the kitchen sink. Usually not a good choice. And you usually would call your detction method from your .ini file. Right now I'm using 43. I'm using Dirmon2 to run it so the command line being used there is comskip.exe --ini=C:\Comskip-ts\comskip.ini That's it. Plain and simple. I don't need to playnice and all the settings I use are in the .ini file. And again-upgrade to 008.

Code:

Generated using Comskip 0.80.008

Ini:	C:\Comskip-ts\comskip.ini

Detection Methods to be used:
	1) Black Frame
	2) Logo - Give up after 2000 seconds
	3) Resolution Change
	4) Aspect Ratio

Only the early access versions can process h.264

I've been using comskip on non H264 files for some time with the detect setting also at 43 and the commercial detect is near perfect on all channels and all shows. I've been noticing that the station icon in the lower right corner has been moved to the lower left on some shows. Also, some commercials now also have an icon on the lower right corner.....anything the TV industry can do to force us to watch commercials.....

I'm about to upgrade to the 80.008 version of comskip. Sounds like keeping the detect setting at 43 should be kept the same.

Can the detect settings be different for SD and HD recorded shows?

I've set it up with 2 different directories. A comskip-ts and a comskip-mpg directory. This way with 2 seperate .ini files and running 2 jobs in Dirmon2 I can test and try different settings. But so far 43 is working pretty good for both types of recordings.

Thanks. I'll give that a try as well. I'll also setup the TS comskip at 43 for starts.
