King Of Sat - What does it all mean?

Can anyone tell me which bits of info I'm supposed to be using on that website. I've tried altering the physical location of a few channels that have been moved to avoid a full rescan, but no matter what numbers I put where I can't seem to get it right.
Can I even do it from channel setup, or does it have to be done from the frq file?

You need to edit the .frq file directly. As far as I'm aware there is no other way. And if you are just adjusting numbers then you shouldnt need to do anything else.

It is quite confusing and took me a while to get my head around it, I wouldnt say I understand it but my best tip would be to compare a line in your .frq file with the corresponding good information on kofs and go from there, seeing how the information is made up should show you how to change others that need ammending.

I think the general consensus is that after an initial scan you should never do a channel scan again as it wil screw up you .frq fiel by overwrtiing it. Everything should be added or changed by editing the .frq file.

I've got so many channels no longer working I'm going to have to have a go But I'm still not sure what numbers on the website are needed.
Take for instance Challenge. This channel still works, and the frq has this info.

CH:450
onid:2
tsid:2002
sid:6002
frq:11739000
rate:27500
mod:20
pol:2
fec_rate_in:2
pilot:0
sat:0
ctrl:1
#:Challenge

Now some of these are the same no matter what the channel, and some of them are clear on king of sat; but others aren't so obvious.
This is all the info king of sat has for Challenge.

Name: Challenge United Kingdom
Pos: Astra 2A (28.2°E)
Freq/pol: 11740.00 V
SR/ FEC: 27500 2/3
Encrytion: VideoGuard
Sid: 6002
Video: 2316
Audio: 2318 eng 2319 eng

You missed out tid from kofs which for challenge is 2002.

From your info you can deduce the following;

onid:2 = no idea, seems safe to keep as others
tsid:2002 = tid
sid:6002 = sid
frq:11739000 = frq
rate:27500 = SR
mod:20 = no idea, seems safe to keep as others
pol:2 = polarity 2 = v/1 = h
fec_rate_in:2 = no idea, seems safe to keep as others
pilot:0 = no idea, seems safe to keep as others
sat:0 = no idea, seems safe to keep as others
ctrl:1 = no idea, seems safe to keep as others

What do you have in your frq file for a channel that is not working?

I've created a very quick image showing my understanding of the data available via King of Sat. It maybe helpfull or it may not.

For FEC settings look at the guide in your .frq file (at the top) and match the numbers up. So BBC HD has a fec of 5/6 and the guide says 5/6=6. So the .frq entry must be fec_rate_in:6.

Regards

Ben
