I used an Extender to configure the the Capture device(HD-PVR) in SageTV. When I see a preview coming from the device I know it is working correctly.

TME is only need to for play back on the PC that playback is being performed.
To switch between the audio for capturing, that has to be done in SageTV configuration menus.

Well, I am performing the capture AND playing back the video on the same machine (my WHS HTPC). So does that mean that TME needs to be installed there?

I do not run TME on my WHS server and I just changed from analog to SPDIF in the wizard that Sagetv runs, its a choice. Oh, and you have to remove the analog cables to make it work. And I play it on my HD200.

Reset the HD200 back to defaults using the reset procedure (unplug and hold the delete button on the remote) Once you get those errors on the HD200 I cannot make them stop till I reset the HD200. (at least with older firmware on the HD200, I don't get much anymore after the 20081213 build.. )

See-I DO run TME on my WHS server. But only for testing and configuration. And I've never changed from analog to spdif in Sage-I've always changed between the outputs in TME. I guess you learn something new everyday. As another plus I haven't had any audio problems that have been reported by other users.

Still am getting nowhere on my WHS. Any other suggestions? I'm upgrading back to the beta, and I've reinstalled TME.

Getting there...

I pulled out the sound card from my WHS, and uninstalled the associated driver. I then upgraded to Sage v6.5.5, and set up the Audio and Video. I'm now getting TME and Sage to work. Apparently, the Audio driver for the sound card wasn't compatible with WHS (I didn't have any problem with it and XP).

So, now I'm getting video, but there's an annoying artifact line at the bottom of all of the video coming from the HD-PVR device. Does anybody know if there's a way to adjust that?

Also the video is choppy.

I found a reference that WHS is actually Small Business Server with some added services. You can find it when you look around the page file gui tools. As for the choppy video, check the demigrator.exe service. I disabled it and video playback is great now.

WHS is built on the win2k3 core not SBS although SBS is built on the win2k3 core too.

I wouldn't disable the demigrator, it's an important part of how WHS works. I would however disable duplication of the recording share. I do have duplication on my video archive share and I'm not having video issues although I'm not using the HD-PVR either.

My recording shares are not in the pool, the only way I could get the demigrator to stop hammering the system was to disable it. As I only have one drive in the pool, what would I need it for anyway? As for what WHS is built on I originally read it was win2k but the OS itself says its: "Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server". I have attached a screen print.

I have 3 drives in the drive pool, and one 1TB drive dedicated to Sage recording (64K blocks). The Sage drive is not duplicated.

gollumscave,

WHS <> 2003

WHS is based on Windows Server 2003, but if it was a part of the server 2003 line, it would be called Windows Server 2003 Home Edition, or something like that.

WHS is both a superset and a subset of 2003 - it is based on the core, but it has many features that 2003 does not have, and it is lacking many features that are core parts of 2003.
Also, drives that are not in the pool aren't touched by the demigrator and there's no need to keep drives out of the pool any longer either. Drives in the pool can be formatted to use 64K clusters (see my tutorial) and demigrator is now much less aggressive but it's still a good idea to not duplicate the recording share.

I'm curious, what does it say in your Startup and Recovery dialog box for Default Operating system? What it said in mine was screen printed from my HP Mediasmart ex470..

Perhaps these will help explain why it says SBS when it's not SBS:

From a conceptual standpoint, the problem with Windows Home Server is that it doesn't lend itself to a simple, single-sentence description that will immediately sell itself. In a nutshell, WHS is home-based server software, based on a rock-solid Windows Server 2003 core, that will typically be sold with new PC-like server hardware from companies like HP.
From the WHS Team Blog:
http://blogs.technet.com/homeserver/...s-and-sbs.aspx
Quote:
Windows Home Server (WHS) and Windows Small Business Server (SBS) are both built in the same organization at Microsoft, the Windows Server Solutions Group (WSSG) - two new 3 letter acronyms and one new 4 letter acronym for everybody to add to their knowledge banks. We often get asked how are these 2 products different and also what do they have in common?

Both products are based on the proven technologies of Windows Server 2003, and both are targeted to meet the specific needs of a specific market segment.
So, as I said, both WHS and SBS are based on the win2k3 core and both are built by the same "group" so it's not a surprise that they've reused some of the code but it's also clear, even from MS itself, that WHS and SBS are based on the same core not that WHS is based on SBS.

Hope that helps...

Went back to the beta 6.5.5, and now Sage doesn't work again. The error I'm getting is: (-4,0x80040217) video can't be rendered. Video and audio work fine in TME. Any ideas?

I'm going to try and revert back to v6.4.8 to see if that will fix the problem.

Freaking Demigrator.exe service started running again. I had it disabled, I think my ex470 must have done an automatic upgrade or something as it was set to automatic again. That service hangs shows for a minute or more at a time. and I only have one drive in the pool and I do not use it for sage..

Someone at MS has their head up their proverbial ass...
