Wifi Question
Anyone gotten SageTV Client to work over 802.11b+ Wifi?
It's really choppy for me. Only seems to work over wire. ~z |

802.11b is not enough bandwidth. The minimum specs state 802.11a or g (54 mbps). You may be successfull if you reduce your recodring quality to 1-2 gig/hr, but even then it is dependent on the quality of your wireless connection.

I'm actually in the process of swapping out all of my PC wifi hardware for the new D-Link 802.11g stuff that runs at 108Mbps. From a Sage user's perspective, it was pretty exciting.

A few people have said .11b works for them with various quality settings. But since you are having issues with it chopping up then it sounds like you need to upgrade to a faster wireless connection. There really isn’t much you can do with poor data rates over wireless.

I originally had an 802.11b wireless network with a PCI wireless in the HTPC Sage server, and the built-in .11g in my Toshiba laptop Sage client. I had to reduce the recording quality and even then it was extremly choppy. I upgraded my AP to a NetGear 802.11g and replaced the PCI card in the server with a 802.11g wireless card. The laptop already had .11g so it was great. I have to be careful where in the house or outside I am. If the laptop is too far from the AP, then the data rate drops to about 24 MBPS and it chops up again. If I use both my laptops as clients at the same time, then the bandwidth is too low again. I am planning to hardwire the server to the 10/100 wired LAN once winter is over and I can crawl under the house without getting wet.
