Confusion about SageTV Release versions

I am happy to say that the wife gave me permission to buy an HD200 for "future use" (since you never know how long it might be until they come back in stock, once they are gone ). It's on it's way right now.

However, I noticed a few seemingly contradictory things while ordering.

The HD200 says "Requires SageTV Media Center version 6.5 or later"

Yet the SageTV software downloads section says the latest version is 6.4.8 (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=245).

The only place I see a "6.5" is the beta test section where 6.5.4 is out for beta testing.

While I would assume that this means I need to install the beta test version 6.5.4 in order to run the HD200 in media center mode, I am surprised that Sage would purposely push new users to use software that is still, by definition, being "tested" (and therefore potentially buggy).

I'm also a little, well, disappointed?, that I have to install the new beta version myself just to use the HD200 as an extender. Normally I wait until the software is past the beta stage and "officially the latest", because at that point, people start checking/tweaking to make sure all the plug-ins still work and such, and I don't get stuck with a bunch of broken plug-ins and have to wait for people smarter than me to fix them.

So at this point, when the HD200 arrives, I might just leave it in the box until 6.5.4 officially becomes the "latest version" of SageTV software. (unless, of course, someone reveals that it does work with 6.4.8).

If you've ever run a SageTV beta, you'd know their betas are usually better than most people's "stable" software.

The other thing is they probably left 6.5 in beta after the HD200 was released so they could more easilly squash any bugs found by the larger user community.

It will work with 6.4, but you need a placeshifter/extender license for the HD200 in 6.4.

6.5 might be out by the time you get one.

You would be fine with the beta - it works quite well actually.

But as Stanger89 stated, 6.5 could very easily be out of beta by the time you get your HD200.

Thanks, guys.

If the 6.5 "official" release is going to be out by the time I get mine, well.. it's got a couple of days. Mine's on the way from CA to OH right now....

On edit... looks like you guys knew something, huh?
