Setting up the Sage.properties file???

I'm totally lost on this file...Im trying to get my .m2ts files to play in sage but I keep getting the error "PlaybackException: Error(-4,0x80004005): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback. I have setup my codec's though graphstudio and the files play great in WMP and just about everything eles I play it in. I just don't understand how to setup the sage.properties file to make it play in SageTv.

Here is my sage.properties file and a screenshot of the graphstudio setup.

I could really use some help!

Thanks,
Aaron

Can you post a screen shot of the Video\Audio section of the Detailed setup. I am sure all that stuff is in the properties but would take awhile to figure out.

If it plays fine in WMP have you tried setting both the audio and video to default rather than trying to force the codec? If it's in default it should use the same decoders as WMP.

Try:
Video Render - Overlay
MPEG4 Playback - DirectShow
DeScaler - Disable
Everything else to default

See if that is better.

Can you play any other H.264 files?

Try downloading Tsmuxergui and see what is in the file.
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/tsMuxeR

Try to create a new one removing anything that is not the main video and audio. Also downgade the audio to AC3 if it is HD. Also convert it to a ts file and see if you get the same error.

Here is a sreeen shot of the tsMuxeR. I made a .ts file out of the .m2ts file and it is a garbled mess and the aspect is 4:3 in sage. The .ts file seems to play fine in WMP and in VLC. I. working on giving a link to one of my .m2ts files to see if anyone eles can get it to play on there system. I will give the link in the next post...

Thanks,
Aaron

Here is a link to a small .m2ts file that is recorded on my Sony HDR-SR1 camera. These are the type of files that wont play in sage.

Hope this will help solve the problem.

Thanks,
Aaron

I don't know if it a good thing but I can reproduce your error. If I convert it to a ts file it will play fine but not as 16x9. I can stretch it in Sage and it looks close to normal but with a small black bar to the right. The resolution reports as 1440x1084i in tsmuxer which I have not seen before.

I recoded it in MeGui and it seems to think it has an aspect ratio near 4:3 as well. I can stretch it to 16:9 and it looks fine. Nero Vision seems to know the aspect ratio without adjustments.

Maybe someone else can explain all this. I am not sure if you should not open a ticket with Sage for this.

I wonder if the HD extender will play the .m2ts files? Ultimately, I will be setting up this server headless and running extenders throughout the house. No video will even be played thought this server...I just want to test it's capabilities before I buy this software and hardware package for the whole house.

I love the idea of watching our home video's at the touch of button, rather then burning them to 20 DVD's or Blu-ray discs scattered though-out the house.

Could some try the .m2ts file on the HD extender? I don't want to buy it then find out it don't work or I need 12 different work arounds to get them to play.

Thanks,
Aaron

the 1440 number dates back to the HDV format (HD on DV tape) and is a result of DV tape not being able to handle the bandwidth required for a full 1920 horizontal resolution, so HDV is actually 1440 *non-square* horizontal resolution, so as to cover the same area as 1920 *square* resolution.

the problem with aspect ration is that the playback software has to know that these 1440 pixels should be played back non-square, so as to create a 16x9 aspect ratio.

oh, and the m2ts file seemed to play on my Mac-based server - though it took until 1/2 way through the clip for video to actually be displayed. the audio played the whole way through.
