HD-DVD in extender (and client)

I've got a few HD-DVDs that I'd like to get onto the server for playback on HD100 and Sage client machines.

I have AnydvdHD and have ripped a couple discs into folders, but I don't see them in Sage on either the extender or client.

What is the process to get them into a sage playable format? I do not want to transcode the video and would prefer to keep the best audio that the extender is capable of.

Thanks.

You'll have to remux into MKV or ts with DD or DTS audio.

Is this still the only way to playback HD DVD rips on an extender?

Thanks

I remuxed mine to BDMV format with eac3to+TSMuxer. But no there's no support for "direct" HD DVD playback.

I tried using eac3to on my "The Matrix" HD-DVD and it seemed to work ok, but the video keeps pulsing to black every few seconds on my HD200.

I got that to work for me. If I can remember what I did....

Use eac3to to demux the video to video.mkv, audio to audio.thd+ac3 with the -640 flag, and chapters.

This makes a mkv file with the video, and a thd+ac3 file that has the blu-ray "compliant" TrueHD w/ AC3 core that the extender understands.

Then I fed the mkv and thd+ac3 files into TSMuxer and pasted the chapter list in, and out comes a BDMV structure that worked for me. I dide all 5 Harry Potter movies, the three Matrix's, Transformers, and last I tried, they all worked that way.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.

Using a combination of EVODemux, eac3to, and TSMuxer I was able to convert many of my HD DVDs to an m2ts file that the extender can play.

Unfortunately some of files have audio synch issues. One thing I noticed is that of the files I converted, all of the VC-1 HD DVDs are fine and all of the AVC/H264 HD DVDs have synch issues.

Is there some trick to converting AVC/H264 based HD DVDs to a format the extender can play?

Thanks again

joe

The easiest app I've seen to do this is CLOWN-BD. It converts the HD-DVD media to BR format in a BDMV folder, plus an ISO if you want to powerdvd play it.

I've used it on a few movies and it works well, and the HD100's and HD200's play the media just fine.

Make sure you look at the audio delay that eac3to reports. That threw me a few times on Transformers, I tried several times and had horrible sync issues. I later found that it was the only HD DVD I ran into that had a -500ms audio delay. Punch that into TSMuxer when you mux, and all is well.

IIRC eac3to dumps that out as part of the filename? Actually I guess not if you demux only specific tracks, I guess that was part of my problem probably.

Does it insert chapters from the HD DVD into the BDMV? And does it make HD DVD TrueHD tracks BD compliant (ie add a DD core)?

@stanger89: Are you using any GUI front end for eac3to or strictly commandline usage? I came from the DOS era, but I really prefer GUIs nowadays. I've tried Clown, YA (yet another eac3to GUI), HDBRStream Extractor, TSMuxer, and Ripbot264, but each one seems to be good at different things.

I'm still trying to get all this to work and am pulling my hair out trying to get HD audio and subtitles into an MKV.

I did it all the hard way, at least for eac3to.
