HD100 will NOT keep AR mode
I have an HD-PVR and a HVR-1800. Whenever I use my extender, the HVR-1800 displays too small and I need to us FILL mode. The HD-PVR is fine. I set it through the detalied setup menu and everytime I change the channel and Sage picks the 1800 as the tuner, it goes back to "source" for the AR. I'm getting frustrated and don't understand why my setting will not "stick." Anyone have this problem before?

I had the same problem on the HD100 and was just able to simulate it on the HD200. Try this. It worked for me. Set the AR to fill and turn off the extender. Shut down and restart the SageTV server. I don't think the setting is being written to the properties file until SageTV terminates. It's a pain, but like I said, it worked for me.

As I posted earlier today in another thread: Aspect ratios on an HD extender are controlled during playback -- use the Options command, choose AR mode, then choose the one you want, set a default, edit custom AR modes, & so on.

Try this:
Tune a SD channel. During playback change the aspect ratio to a different AR and set it as the default. The aspect ratio for the tuned channel will change as expected. Now switch to a different SD channel and watch the aspect ratio switch back to the original setting. It happens on my HD100 and HD200. I have only been able to get it to stick by cycling the extender and/or the server prior to switching to another channel after setting it. Rich

Hmmm... setting the default should make it the default from that point on, as far as I know, but it looks like the extender is only using the value set at start-up. That would explain having to power cycle the extender to get the new default used each time. I'll ask about that.
Oh, and you don't need to restart the server, or at least I didn't. - Andy

I can't get the extender to keep the "Fill" aspect ratio mode, no matter what I try.

Who knows if this has anything to do with it, but with the Sage 6.5.3 client the modes are source, fill, 4x3 and 16x9. With the 200 extender, it's source, fill, Zoom A and Zoom B.
Who knows.

Ok Opus, now that I think about it, I had this problem in the past and your advice worked. I just realized that I cannot set the default AR. I don't know if it is a problem with 6.5 or sageMC or myself. When watching live tv I press the option button and go to AR...I should have options to set a default correct? I can't find those options.

As was pointed out above, for now you have to power off & power on the HD extender after choosing a default AR mode from that dialog. Quote:

Andy, pages 117-118 read "STX-HD100 HD only" for the Sage 6.4 manual. Not the 200. Did you notice that?

Would it have hurt to have posted this?
Aspect ratio notes when using the STX-HD100 HD extender only: Use the Right arrow while any aspect ratio is highlighted for more options: and say "This applies to the HD 200 as well" I've never had an extender before my 200, and it's possible that others haven't either. THIS IS WHAT IS FRUSTRATING WITH SAGE! Am I to assume everything that applies to the HD 100 applies to the 200? The USB ports on the HD 100 don't work with mass storage devices; should I assume they don't on the 200?

Everything you have to do has been covered in both topics you've been participating in, including the temporary solution to get a new default AR mode to stick. Please re-read what we've all been saying about the temporary solution. In fact, you selectively quoted one part of what I said to you about the manual reference, then completely ignored the next line right after it: Quote:

You know what... I thought I was just being funny with my "I do" comment above, in response to "who knows", but from your now-edited comment above, you didn't think it was funny. I guess I'll stop trying to make any more jokes and let someone else help you. The temp solution has been posted.

Lastly, and probably most importantly - why was this little tidbit not put in the HD Extender's manual? Why was it put in the Sage manual under Chapter 4 - Media Playback?
What if I simply run the server in service mode and was only planning to the the extenders as clients? Anything that has relevance to the extenders I would think should be part of the extender manual. There, I've said my piece.

Ok, as suggested, I went back to the default STV. I turned on LiveTV and pressed the option button. The I went to AR and highlighted "fill" THEN pressed to the right and another menu appeared to set it as the default. I did so, and now all is well . Thanks for the help.

Yes. SageMC has no provision for the extender's AR modes.
