Working remote for STV

Hi,
Does anyone how to get a remote to work properly with stv. I a amble to use the small remote that came along the mac mini, but it simply has to few buttons... I have a hauppage remote that works like charm for my pc client. Is there any way to get some hardware that can be hooked up to the mac and make it possible to use the hauppage remote? I have been looking at USB-UIRT but if I understand well there is no driver that works properly for mac?

Hi gravis12.

Let me start by saying, me too. I've got something I'm using to control SageTV on my Mac Mini (client), but I'm looking to switch to a remote to make things easier for the family.

I've found some software and even some hardware that might do the trick. It even seems easy enough to set up. But, I've not ordered it yet, nor do I know anyone that is using it. I've posted about it before (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37365), but no one has replied. So, I don't know if it works with SageTV. I think it should work. The software is called Mira. It's compatible with 3 different receivers right now (that I can see). It currently does not support blasting, but there is a jack to attach a blaster to. It looks like it has pretty good range as far as the kinds of remotes it can support, so I'm considering buying it now.

I just thought I'd mention it on the chance you get no responses to your post. I'll report my findings here if I decide to give it a whirl.

Best of luck.

Steve

I use a Keyspan remote sensor and its accompanying software. Then i have my Harmony 656 programmed to use it. This is not ideal, as it only gives me 17 buttons, but it is a whole hell of a lot better than the Apple remote.

The problem with remotes on the Mac is a lack of software - there are no decent software hacks for the built in IR sensors, and no decent multimedia remote packages (remote/sensor/software)

I would love to get an iphone/ipod touch remote for Sage....

I'm using Remote Buddy currently paired to a PS3 BD Remote. It's a very powerful piece of software, and after some tinkering, I got it to work just fine with SageTV (hint: Set your Operation to 'Single Press' in you mapping options).

In addition to working with the Sony SP3 remote, it also works with Keyspan and the Apple remote when hooked up to a MCE Remote receiver. It doesn't work with the actual MCE remote yet (which is what I really want), but they've been hinting for a while that it's on the roadmap.

After having kissed a large number of frogs, this seems to be the best option for my setup.

Not a bad thought...

[edit: of course Apple has no third party support for their remote app...]
