Graphical remote with extender?

Hi All,

I'm investigating a full house system for my parents. They have a "music only" station in their living room, and I'd like to be able to use an extender to play music there. I'd much prefer to use a graphical remote such as the logitech 1000 instead of having to mount a monitor. Is such a solution possible?

Many thanks,
NN.

Yes but not off the self you'll need to somewhat roll your own.

I do this on my Dell PDA via wifi. I used xammp to host everything.

And are you actually controlling the extender (or you are able to tell Sage to control a particular extender), or are you controlling the PC running sage?

I can either tell the server to effect extender/placeshifter, I don't have any PC clients.

Very interesting. Using just the package you mention above, or did you also have to write some code? Might be a fun project after all!

colinr, I am very interested in this as well since I picked up Archos 605 wifi for next to nothing recently during the Blockbuster sale. What package are you using to control sage? I have read before it should be possible using Nielms webserver?

bastafidli, Yes, you can use Nielm's web server to control SageTV clients and extenders over the network. I have uploaded a document to the file downloads area that lists all the raw HTTP control queries if you are attempting to create something on your own.
SageTV Remote Control HTTP Query Listing

If if your device supports Flash, you can try out my Flash based version of a SageTV network remote control.

I'm not sure what to do about the monitor-less setup, if you can't see the SageTV GUI, then I'm not sure how you will get the GUI onto these portable devices?

Good luck ...

Thank you very much. I am out of town this week but I will take a look at it when I get back. My idea is to using the browser (Opera) on my wireless touchscreen device (Archos 605) access the Web UI and then instruct sage to play XYZ on my HD extender. If I can get the listing of the available media (photos, music and videos) I should be golden. Would this work?

Another option, if the Nielm web server GUI is too large for the compact screen device, you may want to check out jreichen's Mobile Web Interface

It's nice to have options :-)

Thanks,
shadeBlue

Shadeblue and I are also working on adding extender support in Intelliremote so if you own an iPhone or iPod touch you will be able to control your SageTV extenders. Kind of expensive solution if you don't already own an Iphone or iPod Touch though.
