6.5.1 & 6.5.2 Hang then error when trying to play or view

From either of the new betas, when I try to watch live TV from my HD HomeRun or watch any MPG or AVI file (recorded by sage or otherwise), I get the hated spinning circle, then after 15 or 20 seconds, I get a playback error -4,0x80040217 -- error rendering video portion. The spinning circle gets jaggedy like there's video feedback and the on-screen menus blink. I can play mkv files. The files play fine in MPC and VLC, and I even dropped one on GraphEdit to see that the direct show filters were ok -- no problems there either.

My system is in my signature.

Hopefully, I've uploaded the correct log file.

I'm getting essentially the same thing with v6.5.2 (last had 6.4.8 installed). The spinning circle of death, though I'm not getting any error message, because it's permanently circling. Happens with viewing/seeking of routine mpg recordings done by SageTV.

Using Intervideo Audio and NVidia Purevideo Video decoders.

I have a high suspicion it is the beta mpegdemux.ax. From this forum:
http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...t=35467&page=7

The only version that worked with my system was 2.0.1.13, though the audio playback delay never worked with that version.
(Did not get a copy of 2.0.1.14), 2.0.1.16 certainly was abysmal.

I copied over the one that came with 6.4.8 and it seems to be working just fine.

When I restored my Sage backup, I did not restore the common folder -- so I'm using the sage demux from the new beta with the old sage without problems (2.0.1.18) -- (actually, all of the filters in the common folder). I was using the beta demuxes from the thread you linked-to because their timing was so much better -- even though I sometimes had it stop for no reason when it did a commercial skip or I did a jump (a bunch of quick jumps did it every time). All I had to do was to stop the show and restart it -- no spinning circle of death -- annoying, but better than the timing error.

As a test before I copied my sage backup over the newest sage beta, I built an mpeg graph using sage demux from the new beta and one of the files that wouldn't play in sage and it played fine outside of sage using the same set of filters that I've set sage to use. So I think that the problem's in sage.

I think we fixed this one already based on looking at your log.

There was a bug where if your system didn't have DXVA2 support (which is possible for Windows XP); then it would try to use Overlay instead of VMR9 because it thought there was no DirectX9 support at all.

This is the line in the log that would indicate that is the case;

And if you want to test the update for this (we've got confirmation from one user already that it fixes the problem) just submit a bug report and we'll send it to you. I want to be sure there's not more than one problem here.

Thumbs up

Yep! That fixed it!

What is DXVA2 and is it worth pursuing getting it installed?
Thanks!

I'm not sure if my problem is caused by the same thing. When playing a movie it will freeze up and just give the circle thing about 5 seconds into the movie. I have to restart the computer in order to play the movie properly.

I tried to enable bug reporting but couldn't find the reg file under Vista 64. Is their a different location where the reg key is located in Vista?
