Serial problem
I have a H21-100 DirecTV HD reciever
I am using usb->serial->null modem->serial->usb to control it I have gotten the DirecTVcontrol utility to successfully change the channels, but Sage refuses to talk to it. I see that in the source options the control is aimed at the Common folder and looking for a directv dll. I looked and there is no dll by that name there. There is however one in the SageTV folder. I have tried to copy it over to the folder it is looking in with no success... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Check that you have the DirecTV Serial Channel Changing mode set to "Fast" in the Detailed Setup -> Customize settings.

I found that setting and it changed nothing.
When I have Sage in windowed mode and the DirecTV Control Utility open next to it, When I attenpt to change channels in Sage, nothing happens at all in the utility. Should it at least sending "something" to the utility, even if its wrong? I feel it has something to do with the dll in some way, but have no idea what to do to start fixing it. |

Ok... I am stupid.
After working on different thing (ie HD-PVR) I assumed that I needed a 3rd party software (in this case the DTVcontrol utility) to change channels. So I had the utility running in the background thinking sage talks to it and it changes the channels. WRONG!! it was actually blocking sage from changing the channels by using the COM port. Just closing the app wasnt enough to fix it, I had to restart to free up the port but, holy hannah!! it works. I really need to stop thinking to hard on this thing and use the KISS method from here on out. My blood preasure would be lower perhaps? In my frustration I ordered a Patterson device -lol they have a good return policy so I am ok. I will try it since I am not to thrill about seeing DirecTV's OSD behind Sage's Anyone have any luck with using the Patterson device and a H21-100 for the OSD? |

I use the Patterson's for only one reason. If there's an issue with a receiver and communication, the device firmware can be updated to accomodate it (like the new H23 DirecTV series).
