SageTV client video problems

I am evaluating SageTV to replace BeyondTV. I had to build up a new server after BTV died, so it is current, 3 CPU AMD 2.2Ghz. I had 2 PVR-USB2s and added 2 HD-PVRs.

I installed the trial on the new server and recording and playback of both SD and HD files works fine. The codecs are all default, overlay, SageTV, Directshow and SageTV.

On my client machine is isn't as rosy. This is an older machine, a P4 2.5 Ghz with ATI Radion 9550 AGP graphics.

I installed a trial of SageTV on this machine while I was rebuilding the server. Once the server was rebuilt I installed the client.

Playing SD recordings results in studdering, jerking picture. Playing HD content results in 3 seconds of audio and a single frame displayed. The counter continues and if I click on the position bar, it will skip ahead and display a frame and 3 seconds of audio.

I have tried all the combincations in setup. The MPEG4 SageTV player results in a black screen. I un-installed SaveTV then un- and re-installed Client, no change.

I also installed Client on a Vista notebook (dual core) with cat5 connection and the result is the same. Bad jerky SD and frozen HD.

Any ideas on what is causing the problem would be greatlyt appreciated. I was planning to go with 2 Hd extenders but since it is another 2 months for availability, I need some solution.
