Place shifter works on eeepc not Kohjinsha sx3?

HI-

I purchased a new umpc hoping that it would work okay with h.264 based on some things i read on the web (specs are below). I cannot get placehifter to even start. If I uncheck 3d accel, it complains about a hardware issue with overlay. If I check it, it briefly flashes the placeshifter splash. then closes. This is running vista. I know this is not enough info, but not sure where to start? My eeepc does fine with these things, but it is XP. I don't really care whether it can do HD, transcoded down is fine, but no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Manufacturer Kohjinsha
Model name SX3
CPU type Intel Atom (Silverthorne)
CPU speed 1330 Mhz
Graphics Intel GMA 500
OS Windows Vista Home Premium
Display Size
8.9" 1280 X 768
Display Type
LED b/l,
RAM 1024 MB
Hard Disk 60 GB

I don't believe placeshifter can even play h.264...yet.

The eeepc does it over wifi, I'm watching a mythbusters recorded from Discovery HD from a dish network r5000 right now. Picture is not great, sound is sometimes choppy, but it's watchable.

On the sx3, sage client doesn't work very well either, but I haven't worked too hard on it. I had assumed that if the eeepc was tolerable, the sx3 with better hardware would be better, but it's pretty much nonfunctional with sage at the moment. I think it is because of a vista driver issue with the gma500 graphics processor, but I'm stretching my knowledge of this stuff as i is. I might try to reconfigure the sx3 with XP, although I thought I read somewhere that there is no going back to vista because it also requires a bios change.

My understanding right now the server would have to transcode the h.264 for plaeshifter. I thought people were having little to no sucess with that. And totally agree it is probably a video driver issue for the sx3 just to get the placeshifter to work.

upon further review, the web app reports that the files from the dish r5000 are indeed h.26h, but mpeg2/ts. not mpeg4. so maybe that's why they kind of work on the eeepc.
