USB-Uirt As Blaster and Receiver problem

Hi everyone, i just reformated my server (i use it to record and playback) to vista. I had no problems with anything except the USB-UIRT.

Here is what i tried.

First i setup my video source. I use the USB-UIRT to change channel on my EchoStar 6100. This worked great since i already had the .ir file from my old install. This worked perfect.

I also use the usb-uirt to control SageTv (ir receiver) using my hauppauge remote and my mce remote. But now i cannot use the usb-uirt as a ir receiver. It gives me the error : "Failed setting the infrared receiver port". I think this is werid because the blaster works perfect.

I then removed my tv source, at the same time the "blaster". then i tried to add my remote to control sagetv and it worked... did not gime me the "failed setting the infrared receiver port" error. I then tried to add my tv source again and it gived me the "failed setting the infrared port" error.

I tried changing the usb port for my usb-uirt, deleting drivers and re-installing .. etc .. it always gives me the error when 1 function is enabled and i try to add the other.

This was not an issue with my old installation. I was wondering why is it giving me this problem and How do i fix it ?
This is getting annoying, since i cannot control sage with a remote if i wan to be able to use my blaster

Thanks all for your help

Please i really want to be able to use my usb-uirt as a receiver and blaster at the same time. It works when i use LMGestion's LM remote Keymap but that software does not allow me enough customisations for controlling sage...

Did you pick the USB-UIRT receiver in Sage TV Detailed Setup? Did you test it in there under Commands-Link Infrared keystroke..? If it's not working there make sure you have the driver installed correctly for UIRT. It sounds like you have.

Thanks alot for reply... I did install the usb-uirt correctly, and i did try to add it in the detailed setup. That is where it screws up. It wont let me select the usb-uirt there.... i even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. What is weird is that it works for one function at a time... if i use it as a blaster, it wont let me add it as a receiver. If i add it as a receiver, it wont let me add the blaster ... i tried it both ways.

Did you install the drivers logged in as Administrator? If so did you install SageTV logged on as the same user? It sounds like a Vista/Security issue. I've turned off UAC before I installed any applications and don't see these issues. You may wish to do the same. If you do you will need to reinstall all your apps as one consistent user with Administrator rights.

mmm. this may be a possibility. I did install sagetv, and the usb-uirt without UAC so it should not be a problem. Does this mean i would need to re-install Sagetv and reset all my settings again ? :P

Thanks alot for reply

If you installed it without UAC in the first place you should be OK. But I think you would need to install it with a user that has administrator privileges.

I tried SageTv with the service disabled and the 2 functions do work at the same time. But as soon as i put the service back on, i have no luck, either the blaster or the receiver function stops working

I reported this as a bug to Sage, who referred me to USB-UIRT support. I emailed him and was told that it's a known issue that's being worked on. FWIW.

Anybody know if there has been a update to this. I was able to get my new USB-UIRT to control my STB but when I try to get set it up to respond to my remote by configuring Sage to use it I get the "Failed setting the infrared receiver port! Please ensure the device is connected."

Of course it is connected since Sage is able to command it to change channels.

You need to have the service run as the same user account as the local interface.

You can also try using EventGhost but you will need to setup exemultituner plugin to have EventGhost control channel changing.

I tried changing the service to run as the desktop account and it still would not connection to the USB-UIRT.. same error. Disabled running it as a service and then it would connect to it and I went through and configured it but after changing it back to run as a service it quit working.

You need to retry that as obviously if application mode worked and service didn't then they were not running as the same account. In application mode you don't get the choice.

Do you have auto login enbled in the group policy? Might double check who you are loggin in as in application mode.

Well despite changing the account that service mode uses to the account I login with and testing to make sure USB-UIRT works fine in app mode it still won't work in Service Mode. I sent a email to the beta team yesterday to see if they know how to make it work. still waiting for a response.

Thanks for the suggestions..

Rob

USB Uirt Error

Just so you don't think you're crazy. I am getting the same error with the USB UIRT running as a service on Vista 64 and Java 6 Update 13. Running Sage as an application fixes the issue.

I am also encountering this problem!!

I just bought a USB-UIRT, and have hit the same problem. Running as an application does fix the problem, but it is not really ideal, since the computer can't enter standby without the service enabled to restart (easily, anyways). Anyone have any solutions?

You'll have to use another software to hande the USB-UIRT as a receiver and as blaster. This is the only solution: the USB-UIRT cannot be shared by two process having a different security context.

You can either use EventGhost, Girder or my software (see signature). My software features a SageTV channel change plugin, so it's easy to handle the change.

Regards,
Stéphane.

The issue is still present in 6.5.20 RC. but now i am having problems with LMRemote Keymap, If i test a channel change within LMRemote, everything works great but i cannot use the tuner plugin on Sagetv, it just does not want to change the channel.

Stephane, i already sent you a email with the trace. hope it helps . I will revert to 6.5.8 for now until the issue is resolved.

I really tought i was the only one ... guess i was wrong
