Fixed my stutter playback problem with HD-PVR .TS files

I've been working the last few days trying different configurations in an attempt to get my .TS files to play smoothly. My HD-PVR files play nicely with the TME player, Sage not so much. I can go a minute or two but then get minor stuttering. I finally found a combination that works for me and has so far eliminated any stuttering. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I first found out my Linksys Wireless USB adapter monitoring program goes haywire when I have Sage full screen. I was seeing CPU spikes bouncing back and forth and topping my 4800+ dual core AMD. Disabling the monitor brought my CPU usage down to 30% on average. But I still saw stutter. It wasn't that bad but enough to drive me crazy.

I've read I should try to turn off FSE and use overlay, made a good bit of difference but I still had stutter. I was trying to use the Arcsoft Video Decoder as the playback choice and I have it set in the .properties file as:

videoframe/h264_video_decoder_filter=ArcSoft Video Decoder

A few lines down I saw:

videoframe/mpeg4-video_video_decoder_filter=

I thought it was weird "video" was listed twice. I searched the forums but didn't find any mention of that property. For snitz and giggles I added the "Arcsoft Video Decoder" to the end of that line and started Sage. Much to my surprise, smooth video!!!

I am using FSE with VMR9, MPEG4 playback in the menu shows DirectShow.

Anyway, hope this helps someone else.

Maybe this needs to go in the HARDWARE forum?
