Issues with OTA HD on PS3

Hello,

With the latest PS3 update, 2.50, recorded OTA HD is having issues. Video works fine, but no audio plays. PS3 seems to be having issues with playing AC3 audio.

Is there a way to record OTA HD using a different audio format? I'd like to record at the highest quality.

Thanks.

ok, got it solved, thanks to sagetv support.

Close SageTV and the service and look inside your SageTV folder for the Sage.properties file and change this line to read like this:

mmc/encode_digital_tv_as_program_stream=false

that'll record HDTV in Transport Stream instead of Program Stream.

ps3 will play back the .ts file with dolby sound.

Blade,
could you explain a little more how you are using the PS3 with SageTV? Just curious of your setup and all. Thanks,

sure, i just have my computer saving ota hd now as a transport stream .ts file.

i then have tversity setup on my computer linked to the directory where the hd files are saved.

and then the ps3 just connects to tversity and i can play back any of the files on my tv.

only caveat is i have to wait for the whole program to record before being able to watch on my tv/ps3. but other than that it works great.

there's also a new software called play on from mediamall that lets you watch hulu and netflix on the ps3. quality is not best, but good for stuff like the daily show.

hope that helps.

I had the same issue with PS3 pre-2.50 worked great with mpeg2-ps. 2.50 broke mpeg2-ps audio. Actually it seems like every few upgrades, Sony breaks mpeg2-ps support.

I tried this same fix with OTA HD switching sagetv to record in TS format, and the files sort of play ok except:
-I cannot fast forward 10x or higher. Only 1.5x works.
-Some recordings report incorrect file length so they don't play the whole recording.

I tried both through my HP media vault NAS running twonky, and copying the files directly to the PS3 hard disk. Same issues.

Blade7, are your TS recordings working ok or are you having the same problems?

Thanks,

Aaron

hey,

i'm away from home for a week, so i can't test it right now. i only watched a couple programs, so don't recall the details you mentioned.

i'll test around when i get back and let you know.

p.s., yes, same guy from the ps3 forum

yeah, same forwarding issues are occuring for me as well.

that's too bad as that's why i bought sage! don't know why ps3 keeps changing up their compatibility.

has the new update been helpful in playing the older format?

thanks.

PS3 update 2.52 did not seem to help video playback.

Recording in ps on sagetv and then converting to ts using VLC seems to work better at least on 1-2 recordings where i got fast forward to work. However it's not too convenient keep convertin 5-7GB files.

Right now I'm living with sagetv saving as mpeg-ts and only using 1.5xff while watching programs on ps3. hopefully sony will chage back whatever they fixed in a new release soon.....

this is interesting............i use tversity with my ziova network media players because i do NOT have to wait for the whole program to finish recording! it just plays straight through (however you cannot FF, etc past the point where you started watching)

i just got a sage hd200 and it does not play through the way the ziova does, but that may be an issue with the profile so i'm gonna play around with that.......it certainly should be possible to play to the end of a recording in progress (don't know what ps3 limitations may be)

Any luck with the PS3?

I specifically bought the PS3 SageTv combo so that I could have an HDPVR for OTA solution for the Main TV. By the time I had both, the PS3 update came out and no use.

I'm on a Mac Pro 8 cores with the PS3 connected via ethernet. I emailed Sage customer support for info on how to change to TS on OSX. Followed the instructions and no go. Still recording as PS. Also the line I was told to change no longer exists in the file I was directed to. Something changed somewhere. I had Sage convert recordings for AppleTV but the quality is less than stellar.

I would be willing to live with limited functionality and view in full HD quality on my TV through the PS3 if I could get Sage to save as TS.

Anyone know how to change PS to TS on OSX? Thanks.
