HDPVR showing up as unknown device after replugging in.
My sagetv server closet was a mess. Wires all tangled. I decided to take on the project of taking everything out.
HDPVR worked fine before but now it shows up as unknown device in the control panel/system/hardware/device manager. I tried to re-install the drivers and arcsoft software from the cd but it says that it cant find a compatible device. I do see an unknown device get added and removed from the list as a plug and unplug the usb cable so I know it is connecting. I looked for a support forum over at haupauge but it seems they dont have one for haupauge us. I know there are a lot of sage people that are experts. Anyone see this before? The computer just not recognizing the device.. |

Did you plug it into a different USB port than previously? I noticed windows seems to think it is a new device if it's plugged into a different port.

hmmm... I thought that PC only had two USB ports in the back and I did try both. But I will take another look as there could be more ports back there. Worth a shot.
The weird thing though of course is that even it is was in a differernt port is that I should be able to tell that device to use the hdpvr drivers. |

I ended up trying all the usb ports. I even tried downloading the 1.1 drivers but it says no compatbile device foudn.
the only other thing I can think of is that I swapped the power pack when I cleaned out my network rack. Can anyone confirm the brand name on their hd-pvr power supply. I dont have it in front of me now but I think what I plugged in was a 6v with one of the sides having a rounded edge. |

I'm not where I can look at mine, but I can discribe it to you.
It has a big plug. IE the plug into the wall is about 2"x4"x3/4". So the guts of the transformer are right on the plug, but it isn't as big as a typical transformer wall wart. It is black and the top edges are rounded over. Have you tried power cycling the HD-PVR and rebooting the computer? Generally speaking, even if the device was plugged into a different USB port, it would search out the device on a reboot. I've found that I have to cycle the HD-PVR whenever I change something drastic for it to work correctly (ie change drivers, install originally, etc). Rebooting the computer doesn't help if the HD-PVR hasn't had it's power recycled.

Going back and forth between SageTV and ArcsoftTotal Media Extreme and changing SageTV settings for Renders and Encoders I cause sage to crash and could not see the HDPVR. Check out this procedure which worked for me. 1. Unplug the HD-PVR USB 2. Run hcclear.exe 3. Select (force device recovery) 4. Reboot 5 Plug the USB for the HD-PVR 6. Make sure ir.exe is running and resident 7. run Blastcfg.exe and change the channel to make sure it works 8. Make sure the IR is right on the Settop Detector(mine was 1 inch away and was failing until I got it right on there) 9. If that all works start Sage. |

You can probably just delete the unknown device and rerun the installer, or tell it you wish to update the drivers and browse to them on disk.
