Sage only recognizes Digital tuner on Hauppauge 1600

Have a problem that I have tried to solve on my own with no luck.

Using SageTV 6.4 (latest) on Vista Ultimate 64, using the Hauppauge 1600. Installed fine, setup the Analog TV tuner as the default Tuner source, and used for months no problems.

Tried running Sage one day, and the configuration screen was opened. Thought it was weird, and as I went through the prompts, I noticed that the digital tuner was the only tuner available. Usually, Sage will see both the analog and digital tuner. Seems that sage will not see the analog tuner.

Have tried the following so far:
1. Reinstalled the latest video card (Ati 4780) drivers.
2. Reinstalled the Hauppauge drivers. **Used driver cleaner .net prior to installing the tuner or video card drivers to make sure that the old drivers were completely removed.
3. Re-installed SageTV, using 6.4.8. Deleted the Sage folder prior to this, so that the properties files would be newly built.
4. Dual-booted XP Home, and I can get the tuner and sage to play properly. This rules out hardware issues.
5. Checked to see if any other programs were using the tuner, blocking Sage's access to it (if possible)
6. Verified that Windows Media Center is able to use the tuner properly

Anything I am missing that is obvious? Any help is appreciated!

I know nothing about Vista (except I bought a box that I promplty put XP on after I hated it too much) but is it possible that Sage is unable to find the missing tuner because the Vista media software somehow has control of it? It seem like something Microsoft would do.

Maybe a way to disable the Vista media software?

Vista Media Center

I have Sage working on Vista 32...no problems. I followed the installation instructions and disabled the vista media center processes. There was a thread in the sage software forum that laid out the installation process for vista. Hope this helps.

Were you able to independently open either Sage or Media Center and use the tuner? After I installed Sage, Media Center lost the ablility to find the tuner.

Have you checked the mmc/ignore_encoders line in sage.properties file?
Because by default it seems all analog components for any installed tuner cards are disabled.
I am a bit surprised it worked to start with.

This is not the case. Supported tuners aren't supposed to be added to the ignore line and there are plenty of analog tuners supported.

Tuners can get added to the ignore line if SageTV has a problem using the device, but tuners that are known to be supported aren't supposed to get added because of one-time issue. If a tuner from the list of supported tuners gets added to the ignore line, submit that info to SageTV.

Hmmm ... interesting, I was wondering why it would automatically place the analog component of each tuner I used in there ...
I don't use the analog tuners so it made no difference to me, hence why I didn't take any steps to troubleshoot.
May be worth investigating once I resolve the current issue I am dealing with.

Regards
Mike

Noticed something interesting.

Since my original post I switched to XP, and was using the ATI 4870 video card with the system no problems.

This week I installed an nVidia video card (GTX 260). I ran drivercleaner (from drivercleaner.net) and removed all traces of ATI drivers. Basically I removed everything associated with ATI on the list of things drivercleaner will remove.

Tried SageTV on XP this am and now the analog tuner is gone again...I wonder if drivercleaner has deleted something SageTV needs that drivercleaner thinks is an ATI registry entry?

I will check the ignore properties you listed as well...but for sure, the issue is not Vista, and probably the drivercleaner program I have used. Trouble is, you would think re-installing all tuner drivers and video card drivers and sage would get things rolling again.

EDIT: Here are the lines from my properties file:
mmc/ignore_encoders=MPU-401|NVIDIA DualTV YUV Capture|USB Audio Device|NVIDIA DualTV YUV Capture 2|ASUS Xonar DX Audio|
mmc/last_encoder_name=Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture

Anyone see something that would cause my analog tuner from being detected? I did try once to uninstall sage, delete the folder containing the properties file, and reinstall with no use.

Removing "Win 418 TS Capture #2" from the ignore line fixed my problem!

This is exactly what happened to me. I found "WinTV 418 TS Capture #2" in the ignore line. I removed it, started up SageTV and saw that device in the possible sources. After trying many other things like completely reseating and reinstalling both cards, I'm all happy with all clear QAM content on both 1600s.

I'm not sure I'll be able to provide a great bug report, I've been using the analog side "Video Capture" instead of "TS Capture" of these two cards for many months, and I don't remember when the "TS Capture #2" went away of if it's also been gone since I stuck the card in my box. I'm a tinkerer, so I've made many changes to this setup since I put it together.

Mutiple tuners on Vista has a trouble, it's fixed in latest beta.

Same problem with tuner disappearing

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I have been using my HP hybrid ATSC/analog tuner card in Windows Media Center successfully until I installed SageTV.

When I installed SageTV, before I'd even configured it, I opened WMC and it can no longer find my HP hybrid tuner card in WMC. I'm not trying to use that card in SageTV, but I do want to continue to use it in WMC.

I installed SageTV to use with my Hauppauge HD PVR. I was able to set that up and run it without a hitch. I just want to be able to still use my other HP tuner card in WMC.

I read this thread above and checked my sage properties file. The "ignore" line is:

mmc/ignore_encoders=MicIn|NVIDIA DualTV YUV Capture|HP Webcam|MuxedIn1|NVIDIA DualTV YUV Capture 2|

Someone above said that this is a problem with Vista and was fixed in the beta version. Which beta are you referring to?

Also, I don't think it is a Vista problem. My HP tuner was working in WMC and my Hppg HD PVR was working in Arcsoft happily together until I installed Sage. It was only after I installed SageTV that my HP tuner card "disappeared".

I'm a bit of a newbie. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

I tried removing the reference from the ignore list but that didn't seem to make any diff. when i went back into the props file it was right back there.

So I then removed it from ignore and added it to the next line...

mmc/last_encoder_name=Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture

(instead of TS)

Now Sage sees it and lets me progess to selecting which analog input I want to use.

[edit: just saw Chris's excerpt above ... that's what worked for me, so far.]
