Hd recordings sound low

Has anyone else had this problem? When recording in HD, im using the Hauppage PVR and my external Scientific Atlanta box. The recordings come out nice but the audio is so low I have to turn up my home theater to a high volume to hear it.

How did you resolve this? Thanks

first thing to check would be to see if there is a volume control on the STB and, if so, make sure it is maximized.

If that doesnt' fix it, if the HD-PVR is recording in AC3, you may need to bump up the gain of AC3 playback.

Just to try and clarrify for anyone else that's new to using sage or external decoders. I'll try and do a quick summary of what they are saying here.

1.) Download the latest AC3Filter from the official site.
2.) Install the AC3filter(The current version 111 will open a tray icon when it's in use for adjustments or you can use the offline configuration utility which is placed in a folder on the start menu under AC3filter.)
3.) Under Setup->Detailed Setup->Video/Adio select the Audio decoder for MPEG2 to be AC3filter.
4.) Now you would modify the AC3filters settings using the tray icon when something is playing or with the offline config.

5.)
a.)If you have 2 speakers turn off the Normalize Matrix option under Equalizer which may be enough. If not boost the gain a little as well.
b.)If you have multiple speakers, If you look under the different options there is a Master Gain - try raising this to your liking during playback.

Thanks I went into the Scientific Atlanta box and made the auto options as Normal and fixed. This seemed to make the live tv in hd loud which is cool. I will see when it records. The other items you included seem interesting but I am using an HD100 would that pertain to me? Thanks

yah, those AC3fileter settings would only apply if you are using a PC for playback.

make sure the volume on the extender is turned up all the way. My wife complained of this to me one time and I checked and she had accidentally turned down the volume on the extender...

I have the same problem using the HDHR and HD extender. HD shows play back with significantly lower volume. We've just lived with it so far.

Yep. any show recorded through my HD-PVR has significantly lower volume. Just living with it. I hope a new driver will eventually fix this issue.

The above settings in AC3 Filter helped me but what really made a difference was setting my STB output to PCM and using optical cables.
