Yes! Thanks Sic0048!
Ok, I shouldn't be so happy, but now I know it's not just me. Question is now, does everyone have this and just aren't noticing because it's small? Can you really watch the CNN HD ticker for 1 full minute with silky smooth text scrolling and no micro glitches? Sic0048, yes if you rewind they will happen in different places. There are other times I sense a micro glitch when just watching regular (e.g. no scrolling text) HD channels, so it's not a trivial issue to me. Everything needs to work really smoothly (audio sync, upcoming 5.1, silky smooth playback) before I bite the bullet with 1-2 more HD-DVRs and 3 more Sage HD extenders. |

Micro Stutter
I'm watching CNN as I type this. There is no stutter at all on the crawl.
I can, however, understand your concern. Prior to purchasing my HDPVR I had downloaded a sample HRPVR generated Sportscenter file from the Geektonic website. It had a noticeable micro stutter every 5 seconds or so on the crawl. That was the first thing I looked for after I completed the HDPVR install. I think the main issue is, it's a crap shoot. I my case I was lucky. I guess you could RMA it if you lose the bet. Rich |

The problem is I'm not sure where the crap-shoot lies. Is it with the HD-PVR itself, or with the HD100?
Doesn't seem like it should be the HD-PVR, since the glitches happen in different places if you rewind, unless there's some subtle issue with the recorded files; that seems unlikely. |

You're not the only one. I have the same types of stutters... very subtle but noticeable. Only with shows recorded on the HDPVR.

I'm waiting (as are many) on pins and needles waiting for the new HD-PVR drivers/firmware to see if that solves the problems.
So so so close to an awesome whole-house solution... but still so far... |

Take a look at this thread from a ways back. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...9&postcount=13
I have this issue, and because of it, I ran with much older code on my HD100s for smooth playback of the HD-PVR, but over the weekend I updated to the latest as I was having issues with my HD-HR, the micro stutter from the HD-PVR is way better than the lock ups I was getting on the HD-HR... oh well. From Narflex himself "A detailed stream anlysis of the HD-PVR's H.264 encoding does show that there are errors in some of the buffering indicators which hardware decoders rely on to properly playback the streams." I have not tried switching from 720p to 1080i to see if this gets better, mostly because I'm lazy, but also because I'm stubborn and I don't really care about 1080i when all my TVs are 720p... I suppose I should just try it for now

I'm already running at 1080i across the board, from STB output to HD100 output to the TVs (although doubt the latter matters). Need... new... drivers

switched it to 1080i, and indeed, the stutters are gone. CNN ticker is smooth, but I do notice more Audio delay issues than with 720p. Pick your poison, I suppose.

Are you using an integrated network card on the pc? Seen that cause problems. If you've got access to a pci card give that a try.

It's an add-in card. Anyway, since I've tried three different server machines with exactly the same result, I know it's not my network card. Thanks for the suggestion though.

After many months of back and forth with Narflex and others with much more insight than I, it basically comes down to the drivers for the HD-PVR needing to fix some issues. I was mostly happy with old code where the playback was smooth, but other functions that had been improved, like my HD-HR, forced me to update and live with the H.264 issues until Hauppauge comes out with a fix.
My network is a bit messy, with 2 switches between 2 of my extenders and 1 in between the third, but I only have the problem as a result of different software/firmware/driver configurations.

Agreed. Probably not much more to discuss on this topic until new drivers arrive someday.

Buy a R5000-HD
No stutter on CNN crawler and no audio sync problem. Another case of; "you get what you pay for". |

I may well end up doing that. But not yet. Have to give the new drivers a chance first whenever that is.
