1080p video camera for $150

A coworker just bought This HD camera from Amazon and brought it to work today. We recorded and watched some short clips and it looks pretty darn good.

He thought it was 4x3 because the resolution is 1440X1080. I knew it was 16x9 (it was obvious once we watched a clip) but don't know how to explain it to him. I know it involves anamorphic and/or non-square pixels but beyond that I have no idea.

Anyway, this looks like an incredible deal for a 1080p camera and thought I would mention it.

I bought one of these for my recent trip to Maui. Not bad.... especially for the price. Be aware it lacks a lens-based zoom and has no stabilization.

My one problem was the Macro switch that is on the top of the camera. It's very easy to accidentally switch it to Macro mode and mess up a bunch of footage.

The small size makes it ideal to attach to a lanyard and hang around your neck.

I thought 1440x1080 was true "HDV" and not 1080p...

1440x1080 happens because of non square pixels. The pixel height is 1.3333x the width. So 1920/1.3333 = 1440. Once they get displayed (assuming the right conversion is happening) then it plays 1920x1080 on a squzre pixel display. And, yes, it is HDV

Wouldn't that be pixel width = 1.333 x pixel height? IOW, 1440 wide pixels = 1920 normal pixels?

1440 x 1080i is more well know as LiteHD where Ture HD = 1920 x 1080p/i.
The key diff with interlace scan images you can save half the bandwidth at 1440.
